A beautiful, upscale waterfront restaurant, @shellandbonesoysterbarandgrill, was the perfect setting to celebrate my husband’s birthday! Although the chilly weather 🥶 kept us from dining outdoors, our cozy table beside the fireplace 🔥🪵 made the evening feel warm and inviting, setting the tone for a wonderful birthday 🥳 dinner.
𝓗𝓮𝓻𝓮’𝓼 𝔀𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝔀𝓮 𝓮𝓷𝓳𝓸𝔂𝓮𝓭:
🦪 Oysters Rockefeller – Topped with spinach, 🫚, fennel, 🧈 , Parmesan, and breadcrumbs. Rich, savory, and a delicious way to start the evening. We also ordered a few 🦪 on the half shell for the birthday 🥳 boy!
🥩 Chef’s Filet Mignon – Served with asparagus, Yukon hash, and a red wine demi-glace that elevated the steak to another level. Honestly, that sauce would have made a sock 🧦 taste good! 😂 The Yukon hash, featuring sliced fingerling potatoes with caramelized onions, was SO tasty that we both chose it.
🥩 14 oz. Prime NY Strip – Our friend’s steak came with black truffle 🍄‍🟫emulsion. Since he’s not much of a vegetable fan, he doubled up on the potatoes! 🥔
🐟 Whole Branzino à la Plancha – Hubby’s choice, served with salsa verde, broccolini, roasted potatoes, chorizo, and olive 🫒 tapenade. A beautiful combination of fresh fish and smoky, savory flavors.
🍷 A little wine note: I loved that most wines by the glass were available in a larger pour — a generous serving that lasted me through dinner!
🎃 Dessert: A creamy pumpkin cheesecake topped with torched meringue and a birthday 🕯️ made the perfect celebratory finish. Our friend ordered the ricotta donuts with chocolate 🍫 sauce, and I can personally attest that they were wonderful!
🥂 And a lovely finishing touch: our waitress treated all three of us to a celebratory glass of champagne. Such a thoughtful gesture!
Another plus: Shell & Bones also offers vegan menu options and gluten-free courses, making it worth considering for a group with different dietary preferences.
✨ Beautiful waterfront setting, a cozy fireplace, thoughtfully prepared dishes, and warm service served up a memorable birthday dinner!

🍳🥞 Come hungry, because bella’s cafe is serving up some serious breakfast goals!

Let’s talk about those Sweet Potato Pancakes topped with cinnamon cream cheese butter cream, and salted pecan caramel sauce. Fluffy, jiggly , and absolutely incredible! 🤤 Then there was the Bananas 🍌 Foster French Challah Toast, rum and praline sauce. Both were delicious, and the portions were so big we couldn’t finish everything!

We added a side of breakfast pork sausage, too. Those plump, juicy links were the perfect savory bite to balance out all that sweetness. 😋

And because brunch calls for cocktails, we couldn’t resist the Bloody Mary with a spicy rim and the Cider Sangria with a cinnamon-sugar rim. The sangria tasted like fall in a glass! 🍹🍎

But the menu doesn’t stop at pancakes and French toast. Think shrimp and grits with a biscuit and eggs, homemade beef hash, and catfish rancheros among so many other sweet and savory dishes. There were so many tempting dishes coming out of that kitchen that we were already planning our next visit!

📍 Bella’s Café, 896 Whalley Ave, New Haven, CT— bring your appetite, grab a seat at the counter if you can, and save room for something sweet or savory ! 🥞🍳🍹

@eatbagelbagel is now OPEN 🥯

@rubydee.and.me and I stopped by for soft opening and this morning for grand opening. I am very invested good bagels so we had to try.

It is stated as a New York style bagel spot that has bagels, breakfast sandwiches, sandwiches, and coffee (not decaf).

Both times we grabbed sandwiches and bagels in the bag with a side of schmears. For the soft opening, they were working out some of the baking kinks, and we tried it. The second day. The toasted version was hard on the bottom, but the untoasted version had a good crust and was softer.

We opted for untoasted sandwiches today based on last week. We really liked the meat ratio and style for the sandwiches. Giving them so much grace because it’s day one there were some inconsistencies with egg and hash brown. But it had a lot of good flavor. They were also incredibly open to feedback and it showed in this week’s bagels.

Our go to will be the bagel in a bag. Un toasted and fresh it comes warm with a good crust and a soft inside. Big fan of the rip and dip method. We really liked the plain, strawberry, and scallion cream cheese. We tried the hot honey bacon and as a spicy girl it was less hot honey and a lot more bacon so it’s made for bacon lovers.

Both @rubydee.and.me agreed this is a spot we would grab bagels from again!
