Important lessons from the first miracle of Jesus - changing water into wine.

1). Jesus was invited to a "wedding". You do not have to leave Jesus in the church. Invite him into every facet of your life - your work, your family, your social gatherings, etc.

2). Mary said to Jesus, "They have no wine". Mary had observed this on her own and she took a step further by speaking to Jesus. Our Blessed Mother is like the sun that shines on every single of one us, whether we acknowledge her or not. Like a mother, she keeps observing where we have difficulties and even before we ask, she goes ahead to speak to Jesus for us.

3). Jesus responded, "My time has not yet come", but did He heed the voice of His mother? Yes! Jesus honoured Mary. How well do you honour your parents? Can you go out of the way for them even when it's most inconvenient?

4). "Do whatever He tells you". Despite the fact that Jesus did not give an entirely positive response, Mary trusted that He was a man of mercy and compassion and she went ahead to act. She also instructed the servants to obey. Trust and obedience go hand in hand. "Whatever" could have been anything, but Mary knew that only good things come from the hands of God.

This is why Sacred Scripture encourages us to give thanks to God in "all" circumstances. Even if they seem terrible, God is the master planner and all He does is GOOD.

5). The master of the feast could not fathom where the wine came from. He referred to it as the "best" wine. The divine touch of Jesus makes every ordinary thing extraordinary. Out of a shapeless and void space, God created the whole world and everything that's in it. Out of mere water, Jesus did not just create wine, He created the "best" wine. God can turn that withered part of your life into something remarkable. Remember, out of ordinary mean as His apostles, He made saints.

"O that today you would listen to His voice. Harden not your heart." (Heb. 3:15)

"How can I know God is speaking to me?", you may ask. God's voice sounds like His word. And if you do not read His word, how can you know what it sounds like? The story of Samuel challenges us to enter into a loving relationship with God, through prayerfully (with the guidance of the Holy Spirit) studying His word and receiving Him in the Eucharist. Our Blessed Mother Mary, just like Hannah, delights to take us to her Son. Never hesitate to walk up to your priest for spiritual direction.

God speaks to us every second (because He is a persistent God) but how can we hear Him in a world too loud like ours? According to Mother Theresa, "We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass - grow in silence; see the star, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...We need silence to be able to touch souls.

May God give us the grace and docility of spirit to hear Him and act on His words. Amen.

"Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you." (Is. 60:1)

The Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord speaks to the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ to the whole world. The three wise men who followed the star brought to Jesus, the gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.

The wise men followed the star till they beheld the baby Jesus. Each of us has a guiding star given to us by God, that seeks to direct and bring us into a loving relationship with Jesus. Refuse to let the world dictate whether or not you should follow this star. St. Theresa of Calcutta once said, "We are not called to be successful, but to be faithful." Guard your relationship with the Saviour jealousy and you shall arrive at the expected end.
