On Which It Rests, an exhibition that emphasizes the importance of place within the artistic process. Twenty-one abstract works from 21 artists were selected from a body of 247 submissions from artists across New Mexico.
“Having the opportunity to view work from a myriad of artists, all employing unique approaches to the themes of On Which it Rests, provided us with an exciting opportunity to learn more about the diverse contemporary artistic practices across New Mexico. The quality, range, and vision of the entries that we reviewed presented us with the exceptional challenge of selecting the artists whose work will be exhibited at the Dean Porter Gallery, Lunder Research Center at Couse-Sharp Historic Site this July and August. We look forward to presenting the works that we felt represented the framework of this exhibition, as well as the mission of TAAC and the Couse-Sharp Historic Site.”

"Coming Home" by Susan Faust - oil on canvas | 42"×62"
Typically, one shows images of work sans frame, but I had to try and give you a peek at this frame, which is a work of art in itself. A masterful painting, Faust uses myriad techniques to achieve this complex piece that is both dynamic and soothing at the same time. Stop by Hat Ranch Gallery to view this big boi and other beautiful works by Faust. HRG is located 20 minutes south of Santa Fe on the historic Turquoise Trail. Open Thurs-Sun, 11-5 or by Private Appointment (505-424-3391).

Buying art is a process. For the Client and for the Gallery owner. Sometimes you close a deal within an hour. Sometimes it takes a year. I've learned to just be patient and enjoy the process. Closing a deal when you have both the artist and the client together is a rare gem. Susan Faust came out to HRG to meet these clients and they absolutely loved her work, the piece, and the Authentic Experience at Hat Ranch Gallery. Twas a good day.

These contemporary abstract oil drawings on wood panel (24" x 24") by Susan Faust are stunning as a group display or quite happy to hang solo. I've had so many people tell me what they "see" in these pieces - everything from mesas and canyons to rain clouds. Art is in the eye of the beholder. What do you see??
