First day of kindergarten to first day of 12th grade. This girl is on a journey!! She started kindergarten in 2015, when we had an apartment in Chelsea and rode a city bus up Tenth Avenue to Metropolitan Montessori School on the UWS. Now she’s a senior at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY, studying dance at The Alvin Ailey School and getting ready for the college application process. She’s lived in apartments and houses and dorms. She’s traveled all over the world. She skipped sixth grade. She’s wildly independent and also loyal to her friends and her sister and her dog. She’s mature and smart and musical and thoughtful and the queen of funny faces. There are so many adventures head. Happy last year of high school, Susie. You’ve got this. I am so proud of you. ❤️🫶

We’re heading home from Geneva so here are some of the best photos from the time I spent being a tourist while Susie was dancing for eight hours every day. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the International Museum of the Reformation and the huge presence of the Protestant Reformation all over the city— including John Calvin’s grave, which was about two blocks from the dance studio. I happened to run into @carmiedean on the street and we each snapped sneaky photos of the other one and couldn’t believe we wound up in the same square at the same moment, unplanned. I took a dip in Lake Geneva and then we organized a final night picnic with Carmel and Sar and our new friends Robin and Nina. Plane ride home and they’re serving Swiss wine and cheese. More dance photos to come, but this was a very special experience and I am very grateful. (Also, my high school French and years of Duolingo really held up! I could read everything and basically speak passably. Most of the time.)

Day three in Europe took us to Yvoire, France where we visited the Garden of Five Senses. Then we crossed into Switzerland, stopped to see Chillion castle, and arrived in Montreux where we had a quick swim in Lake Geneva and a lovely sunset dinner. 🇫🇷 🇨🇭

Day two in Europe. We started and ended in Annecy but made a day trip to Chamonix and rode an Alpine cable car up Le Brévent with a view of Mont Blanc. Some folks actually climbed up the mountain, and I appreciated the young man who hiked with baguettes in his backpack. 🇫🇷
