Part 2 my weekend watching the @queenofthepoint Malibu First Point women’s longboard surfing contest— Reunited with the girls and it feels so good, my girls @minijessica and @helengrace____ made me feel right at home watching the heats from the blankets under my brother @rdpics’ EZ UP tent in the shade with legendary elder Joan Bush, who provided excellent hype and encouragement to every woman in the water, and also gave sage advice to young surfer girls in their 20s coming up to her asking for words of wisdom that were newer to competition surfing— I felt honored to be within earshot of the girls giving her that support back when she was in the water in the over 60 category— which seriously became my favorite heats to watch since all the ladies were so zen about the competition and voiced just being grateful to catch some good waves and be a part of the action! They all shredded and it was inspiring to see a bunch of women supporting one another and staying active in their passions at all ages! 🌊

Also v v inspiring to see pregnant surfers getting in and surfing still, whether dealing w nausea, being a few mos postpartum with their baby in tow and the surf aunties, uncles, and husbands helping with the babies and toddlers while their moms paddled out for waves, @shredsista judging the contest while her mom watched her 18 month old and @sarahmei.newby super pregnant about to burst getting a little push out help so she can catch a few waves before baby comes! Surfers really take care of one another and when women organize the contest it really all comes together in a beautiful & unique way.🏄🏼‍♀️

I felt really lucky to be there and I needed this in my life after going through a breakup from an 11 year long relationship and turning 40 this May, it meant the world to be around women in their 30s-50s and up to hang out and talk about peri/menopause, divorce, motherhood, etc… way different experience than last time I went to a surf contest when I had just turned 31 and was feeling ANCIENT hanging out with the girls in their 20s, now some of those women are in their 30s! It made me feel secure about aging and gratitude for life as it comes in all stages. 🙏
