A story of power, territory, survival, and dominance.

This was Collarwali in the wild heart of Moharli Zone — stopping beside a tree, rising on her hind legs, and leaving behind deep claw marks and scent markings.
For many, it may look like a simple scratch on bark… but in the tiger world, it is a message written for the jungle to read.

Tiger marking is one of the most important behaviours in the wild.
These majestic cats are solitary animals and every inch of territory matters. By scratching trees, spraying scent, and rubbing against bark, a tiger announces its presence without making a sound.

It tells other tigers:
“This forest is occupied.”
“This is my territory.”
“I am strong enough to defend it.”

The height of the claw marks often reflects the size and strength of the tiger. Fresh scent markings can communicate age, gender, reproductive status, and even the health of the animal. It is the jungle’s invisible communication system — silent, ancient, and incredibly powerful.

Watching Collarwali mark her territory in Moharli was a reminder that the forest is never random. Every movement has meaning. Every tree carries history. Every mark is part of the constant battle to survive and rule the wild.

On this morning safari, the jungle felt still—almost like it was holding its breath. And then she appeared… the legendary Collarwali. Calm, composed, and completely in command of her territory.

Her walk wasn’t hurried. It didn’t need to be. Every step carried authority. Every glance reminded the forest who truly rules here. She made her way straight to the waterhole—not just to quench her thirst, but to claim it.

Because in April, water is everything.

In the heart of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, we witnessed something that stays with you long after you leave the जंगल… something raw, real, and untouched by human emotion.

It was a calm Saturday morning, our very first safari from the Moharli Gate. The forest was just waking up, light filtering through the trees, silence broken only by distant alarm calls. We decided to head straight to Teliya Lake — hoping, wishing, for a glimpse of the legendary Collarwali tigress and her cubs.

And then… the jungle revealed its truth.

What we witnessed was not just a sighting, it was survival unfolding in front of our eyes.

Collarwali — bold, fearless, every bit the queen she is — emerged from the lake, dragging a spotted deer. The sheer strength, the determination… every step calculated, every movement powerful. Water dripping, muscles flexing, eyes focused — she pulled her kill from the lake into the shade.

Not for drama. Not for spectacle.

But for her family.

For her cubs waiting somewhere in the forest, depending on her for their next meal.
