The weather’s turned cooler, so it’s time once again for long sleeves and related embellishments. Here, a pair of cabochon-cut rubies set in oxidized silver by Suzanne Felsen.

Why does art matter?

It’s the question I ask every guest at the end of every episode of About Art.
In this clip, Ann Grinstein and Suzanne Felsen of Gemini G.E.L. reflect on the role art plays in our lives and why creativity, curiosity, and expression are essential parts of being human.

Why does art matter?

This is the Bruce Nauman work I reference in this week’s About Art podcast with @geminigel co-Directors @grinsteinayn and @suzannefelsen — and as I reference, this print has been an artwork “North Star” for my career and life, inspiring exhibitions as well as a daily life practice.

The clip is me talking about this approach on the @richroll podcast. Grateful that it has been watched more than half a million times and frankly still cringe every time I watch myself swear.

Thank you. I love you.

Can prints be a gateway to collecting art?

In this clip from my conversation with Ann Grinstein and Suzanne Felsen of Gemini G.E.L., we discuss why prints have long offered an accessible entry point for collectors and why they deserve to be understood as original works of art in their own right.

We also talk about collecting with your eyes and your heart rather than treating art as an investment strategy.
As Suzanne says, they want people to collect work they love.
A simple idea, and perhaps the best place to begin.

“Nothing we do is quick.”

In this episode of About Art, Heidi Zuckerman speaks with Ayn Grinstein and Suzanne Felsen, co-directors of Gemini G.E.L., the extraordinary Los Angeles workshop and publisher that has collaborated with artists including Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Serra, David Hockney, Julie Mehretu, and many others.

They talk about artistic freedom, experimentation, collaboration, family legacy, master printers, and what it means to spend sixty years helping artists bring ideas into the world.

What emerges is a conversation about trust, patience, craftsmanship, and the creative relationships that exist behind some of the most important works of contemporary art.
It’s also a reminder that some things simply cannot be rushed.

Curator Susan Dackerman and co-owners of Gemini G.E.L. Suzanne Felsen (@suzannefelsen), Ayn Grinstein, Ellen Grinstein, and Joni Moisant Weyl join Rail ArtSeen Editor Jessica Holmes (@pickle33) on Thursday (3/26) for a conversation celebrating 60 years since the founding of Gemini G.E.L. (@geminigel), a world-renowned printmaking workshop in Los Angeles.

The group will discuss Gemini's redefining of the landscape of printmaking, transforming the concept of editioned works through its unique synthesis of artistic vision, master craftsmanship, and an enduring spirit of experimentation; their celebration of not only six decades of groundbreaking work, but an ongoing pursuit of creative exploration; the exhibition Impressions of Los Angeles: 60 Years of Printmaking at Gemini G.E.L., which offers a new perspective on Gemini’s printmaking history, and more.

You can register for this conversation on our events page linked in our bio. We'll see you on Thursday in the Zoom at 1 pm Eastern 💫
