A place setting for wedding stationers looks a little different around here! A notebook instead of a plate, a pen instead of a fork, and a beautiful invitation instead of a place card. Yep, sounds like a dream in pretty paper land! Our Education Day at The Ledgewood Fine Stationery Collective was something truly special. Every little detail was thoughtfully designed with our fellow stationers in mind, right down to their seats at the table! And that invitation tucked into each place setting? It wasn’t just for looks! It was an exclusive invitation to The Styled Experience the following day, where beautiful paper, creativity, and inspiration came together. Just in case you were wondering if the Flourish Festival of Letters and Arts is worth it or not, ask yourself this. What is the price of meeting people in person, whom you have the same passion for the lettering arts as you? What is the price to pay for meeting some of the world’s best calligraphers and instructors all in on place for four days where you get to have dinner at the table with them? And yet can also get your quiet time too if you need it? There are some unique opportunities like bottle painting, origami, a viewing the St. John’s Bible onsite, hearing Michael Sull recite poetry, participating in a panel discussion on the future of guilds and calligraphy… and well, enjoying our warm Canadian hospitality, eh? Meet Suzanne Cunningham, the very first guest on The Pretty Paper Podcast! @suzcunningham is a professional calligrapher with more than three decades of experience and a name that is incredibly well known and respected in the calligraphy world. She was co-editor of the 25th edition of The Speedball Textbook, has taught workshops and classes to calligraphers around the world, and specializes in beautiful Copperplate Script, wedding design, monograms, flourishing, and envelope addressing. Her work is truly an art form, and her knowledge of the craft (and envelope addressing etiquette!) is unmatched. But to me, she’s also my dear friend Suzanne. I’ve known her for decades. She addressed the envelopes for my own wedding invitations in 2014, and through the years she has become a trusted friend, sounding board, and my walking and talking envelope addressing etiquette book. Back in 2024 I wrote down my business goals on sticky notes and stuck them on the wall right in front of my desk. One of those sticky notes happened to say “Collab with Ledgewood Fine Stationery.” (Swipe to the end for the proof 🫶🏼) I knew from the time I found Frances’ work that she was someone I wanted to have in my corner in this industry! Here we are 2 years later and I have had the honor and pleasure of working with sweet Frances for the 2nd year in a row at her incredible retreat hosted for stationers called the Collective!! Since I wrote that sticky note, we have worked together many times, attended networking events together, and grown a sweet friendship that I will forever be thankful for!!!
