My grandmother lived 93 rich, full, years. I have no doubt she did everything she wanted to do, saw everything she wanted to see (literally the entire world), and offended nearly everyone she’d hoped to offend.

After my grandfather died 17 years ago in Bora Bora, she spent numerous days in the same room they’d both entered together only a bit before, and traveled an entire world home, alone. She was strong, stoic, and poised; never a hair out of a place, an emotion publically visible, or a pound over her intended weight. She was a queen in her own right.

She matched the greatness of Robert C. Frazee, and made him even better, supporting him (but really, leading him) through politics in Carlsbad and Sacramento. She was the oldest daughter guiding force for a 4th born quiet man; they were two pieces that likely wouldn’t exist without the other.

My grandmother supported Rob and I through college, post graduate life, and continued until her very last day. And though we sometimes left a little to be desired, she only let us know in a very quiet, hushed tone.

It’s hard to imagine the always present Dolores ceasing to exist, as we were all certain she would live forever, but how lucky we were to have had so much time with her.

I was raised by a woman who was pretty damn good at doing things solo because my Dad is a pilot & sometimes it wasn’t feasible to wait until he was home to GET SHIT DONE (she instantly reverted back to queen mentality the moment he returned though because his real job started when he walked in the door 😂)

So here I am, married to a firefighter who also works a lot, and with zero patience to wait even 30 minutes until he’s home. So my parents came over yesterday, and while my mom unboxed couch pieces, my dad cut up boxes (and cleaned up dog poop). And I built a fucking couch.

I’ve also installed a new dishwasher (after uninstalling the old) in case you question my skills 💁🏼‍♀️
