Work on the new Wrave album continues…
It’s called Don’t Just Stand There.

2 tracks are on YouTube so far. Lately, recording sessions have not been ultimately fruitful. Performing, it turns out, takes time and effort. I gave up my DAW in favor of talent: a need to forever practice or else these tracks don’t exist. They can be reproduced but they can’t play themselves. I signed up for this on purpose. The balance board is just as much a part of the album’s theme as it is integral to how I control and express the sounds. The goal is to create a soundscape that is utterly impossible to produce by just standing there pressing play. I have to bob and bounce and wiggle my way towards the finish line. It’s also an extremely rigorous test of my product The @swampflux Biggest Foot which converts the balance board into a giant hands-free Kaos Pad. I’ve hit all sorts of odd bugs and usability snags along the way. A musician’s relationship with a tool is constantly improving, so obtuse UX can often get ignored with enough practice time, but here I have the agency to change my tool. It’s been 3 years of resisting quick changes in favor of the struggle instead. I am forcing myself to suffer the quirks to make art anyway, and only change the tool when it is truly broken. Updates can change behavior which undermines the artist’s practice and muscle memory, and thus the performance which in turn changes the sound. Updates change the art. We must be careful as designers to respect that not every interaction should be perfectly smooth right away or be iterated too often. Let them cook, as the kids would say. Let them cook.

Definitely one of the coolest things at @knobcon this year from @megamodularcorp and friends! These 8 blank panels are an exquisite corpse that you gathered through a scavenger hunt between companies/designers/etc. Met a lot of cool people by talking to the wrong booth over and over, ha!

What a weekend! We just wanted to reminisce of all the cool people we got to meet this weekend at #knobcon. It’s events like this that allows all makers of the wired and wonderful come together, make new connections and be happy! We were so delighted to play our part in this and a big shout out to those that came by the table and checked out the new ML:2m Eurorack Clock Generator with Ableton Link and MIDI clock out. Looking forward to next year already!

What did you see that got you inspired?

Don’t forget to sign up for advanced notification for when ML:2m is ready for purchase before anyone else and simultaneously be entered to win a new Circuit Happy swag! Just head to our link in bio!

I got a chance to kinda beta test a module. I figured I’d make a fun little video about it. Before I knew it, it became a very fun longer video. Lots of patches and info on this very unique piece of gear. It’s a modulation source that interfaces with a Balance Board. Remember Wii Fit? It can also record that modulation and play it back out the 9 related outputs and you can even manipulate the modulation on playback by speeding it up or slowing it down. Thanks again to @swampflux for sending it to me to check out and offer feedback on my experience with it! Check my links or search on youtube to find it!

More fun that wii fit ever was for me! I’ve been spending some free time I have getting extra little clips and spending time considering how I film this stuff. Just can’t help it. Having so much fun in the process. Alright… back to editing! #modularsynth #wiifit #ewaste

I knew cv recording would be one of the most fun things to add into my case. In this case, 9 outs from one recording. I’m using the x axis to sequence the lead and the y to sequence the bass. And I’m retriggering playback from Steppy. Worked like a charm with some sample and hold / track and hold. The Biggest Foot isn’t out yet. This is a prototype I’m beta testing. I’ll have a video on it in a week or so. Happy patching! Follow @swampflux for more!

Here’s the specialty of this prototype though. It can live track or record the balance on a wii fit board. That’s like having 2 dimensional modulation similar to a joystick. The loops can have the start time moved forward in the recording and the speed of the playback is also adjustable. Running a reset trigger longer or shorter controls the end of the loop. Super fun to patch up a bunch of stuff and dance around. #modularsynth #wiifit
