A week with @chicagotap is everything and more 🫶 I had such an incredible experience debuting world premiere choreography by @demi_remi and @nicholasvanyoung; as well as taking classes, attending shows, and growing myself as an artist.
• Thank you @jumaanetaylor and Lane Alexander for hosting a great Festival.
• Thank you Demi for creating a beautiful tribute to Eleanor Powell, it was such a fun experience to be part of.
• Thank you Nicholas for challenging me and sharing your knowledge about rhythm and life. Truly was an inspiring week with you and getting to perform your work.
• Thank you to all the teachers I took from - Jason, Lisa, Sam, Brinae. It is always a pleasure to share the wood with you all!
• Shoutout to my friends Emma, Jared, and Jess for 1) performing a @rhythmandsole_ dance and 2) spending this week together through all the ups and downs. Grateful for yall!!
• also proud sister moment for Emma getting the opportunity to perform in Brinae’s Baby Laurence Project! And celebrating @kimbolton5’s birthday that week!

New single HIGHLANDS SWING coming out this Friday!! This will be the first from a new album to be released at the end of the year on Contagious Music @contagiousmusicisnow

Started writing this piece in 2019 while I was at Jacob's Pillow accompanying and music directing for the tap dance program led by Michelle Dorrance @mashdeez and Dormeshia @dormeshia. It's a pretty magical place in the Berkshires hosting an incredible dance festival each year. Wandering around all these big old wooden barns with pianos, I recorded this little idea you hear in the first slide. My inspiration for the rest of the tune was basically if McCoy Tuner went to Ireland and sat in at the pub!

Anyway, I hope you dig it, check it out this Friday! And to all my JP friends, I hope you've been well and hope we cross paths again soon!

What a week! Thank you @chicagotap and @jumaanetaylor for having such amazing instructors, programs, and performances! So grateful for this community ❤️

Special thank you to @brinaeali for an incredible residency experience and opportunity! It was truly an honor to share the stage with you and the cast of the Baby Laurence Legacy Project. From rehearsals, tech, to the show, the process was incredible to be a part of.

Another special thank you to @nicholasvanyoung for a great residency! I truly learned so much in such a short week. From learning body percussion and polyrhythms, to tapping into new perspectives of both dance and music.

Yusei SO THAT Tap

From August 4th to 9th, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in Rhythm World 36 as a scholarship recipient of JTSP (Japan Tap Scholarship Program)!

It went by way too fast. Seriously!

For the first time, I truly felt with my whole body why tap dance has survived all these years and continues to be passed down in the form it has today.

I honestly want to slap my past self for saying, “I can keep working hard in Japan without going overseas.”

The world is so huge. And so deep. 🌍

Everyone I met was so kind, and I was constantly being helped by the people around me. I’m truly grateful to everyone who supported me. 😊

Through this experience, I’m so happy that I had the chance to introduce myself to so many tap dancers, and that some of them even became my friends. 🫶

I’m sure we’ll meet again someday!
