It takes a village. To bring a vision to fruition takes an army of people who believe in you, even in times you don’t believe in yourself.

“Why?” is about overcoming fear...and fear is a very powerful feeling. For over 3 years, I found myself asking WHY? Why am I so afraid? Why am I afraid of not being good enough? Afraid of failing? Afraid of letting people down? Afraid of letting myself down? The moment I stopped allowing fear dictate my choices and actions was the moment I realized that it’s never too late to be exactly who you were born to be, unapologetically.

“Why?” started in a room in Nashville with @jdolese_ and @cody.dyng who believed and understood in my sonic ideas. @skyduck64 (bass) and @richiethedrummer (drums) then breathed their artistry into the record and brought a human realness I think we’re all generally seeking right now.

The song then inspired a new visual era - @jordyclarkephoto, @janellemakesjoy, @sweeneydewdew and @life4zombiez flawlessly created a space for me to feel empowered and comfortable by my growth. This Toronto-based team is behind the photos, the wardrobe, the make-up...with a little help from @vitaly jewelry.

The photos then came to life on screen by @stetsonwhitworth (director), @dustinluttrellphotography (photos), @gerardvachn (lighting design), @hairbyatlanta (my hair/make-up), @breonna96 (the dancer’s hair/make-up), and the choreographers / dancers from Millennium Dance Complex Nashville. Each person of this music video team was integral to taking this release to the finish line.

I don’t have enough words for the gratitude I hold for all of you. And of course, for any and all of you who have ever supported me along the way. Now’s the time to show the world what we’re made of. No hiding. No fear. 🐺 thank you!

I had so much fun working with my incredible team for Lauren Babic’s newest single WHY?
This shoot was more involved than a traditional single art shoot, this was part of a multi day and multi set shoot where a big goal from this shoot was to establish full looks to be used in other aspects of Lauren’s world including stage, music videos and social content. Thank you @laurenbabic for the trust, energy and effort to make this happen. 💙🐾

@janelleisjoy absolutely killed the costuming, pulling together fully idealized looks from vague words and silhouettes in moodboards. There are a few beautiful custom pieces she made that I am so obsessed with. Love all of the accessories from @vitaly
@sweeneydewdew did an incredible job of both hair and makeup, establishing a new era of looks while being able to use the same references found in Lauren’s sound and keeping Lauren’s personality to the front.
@life4zombiez has been an amazing assistant over the years, knowing what is needed before I do half the time. From dog wrangling, craft, lights, helping with set builds to BTS I would have been lost without her.

Having all these women on board for this set of shoots being able to mix our strengths from fashion, music and film made me feel like we had a powerhouse team and the vibes were high throughout the days of prep, on set and post. I love you all so dang much 💙💙💚
This new era of Lauren’s solo career is going to be one to watch, if you haven’t had a chance to watch the music video yet by @stetsonwhitworth and his team IT’S SO GOOD, go do it now!
Why is out in all the usual places, it’s been stuck in my head for a month go listen to it on repeat.

Season 4 episode 9 titled “The Calm Before”had a brief scene with seven ghastly kids who appeared in the town’s Main Street. We had 15 talented artists working on these children with about 3 hours per application.
All the children were fitted with glatzan bald caps and were based painted with skin Illustrator liquid paints and we used a colour so appropriately called “ Ghastly”. We elected not to airbrush the base colour so the trailer was not overloaded with plume air brushing vapours but rest assured air brushing was used for all the fine details and veining . The children wore their costumes during the process so we would know exactly where to paint up to and slightly beyond.
Eye brows were blocked out and fake nails were put on with doubled sided wig tape. The nails were simply store bought press on nails that we cut irregularly and put chips in them along with using a dremel tool to etch some texture on them and then painted with illustrious paints as well to look dirty and gross. Each team took it upon themselves to ghoul them up to desire with lots of hair laying and a few used scar transfers to achieve their look.
Always fun working on these kids who have been absolute professionals with loads of patience while letting us do the work. Always lots of fun working with old friends as well to make the experience the better!
