POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One of the things we love about the Northeast Kingdom: you never quite know what you’re going to find.

Right in the heart of tiny Greensboro is a gallery filled with genuinely beautiful, accomplished work – paintings and mixed-media art, pottery, jewelry, vintage finds, handmade, soaps, cards and more – all created or crafted hyper-locally.

And it’s hardly the only reason to spend an afternoon exploring. Throughout the NEK, you’ll find wonderful little shops, galleries, studios and talented artisans talked into some pretty unexpected places.

Come for the mountains, lakes, and quiet roads. Leave a little room for the things you’ll discover along the way.

What do these pieces have in common? Would you believe that they are all pieces gifted to children (as young as one year old) to start their art collections!? 🤯⤵️
I don’t always get to meet, or even learn the names of people who but my paintings. But when I sold this cow painting through The Current @thecurrentexhibitions last year I was able to connect with the collector, and even meet him in person last month. He shared this really cool story with me:
“My great grandfather was a well known illustrator around 1900. His name was Frank Guild. He painted many magazine covers during his career. When my mother turned one-year-old, he gave her a painting of a rabbit that had been used on the front cover of the 1903 Easter issue of The Ladies Home Journal. The original painting is still in our family.

I decided to reawaken this legacy by giving my first grandson a painting for his first birthday. It’s a painting of a cow, titled “Hello Beautiful,” by Vermont artist Elizabeth Cleary. Thus began my grandson’s art collection, which I’ve continued to add to on his birthday each year. I plan to do something similar for my granddaughter whose first birthday hasn’t arrived yet.”

How cool is this?! @lhjmagazine I think this should be a thing! I’ve got a start on this with my kids since I have some good artists as friends. I have at least one original piece from Kristin Richland @sweetenemyart that hung in my daughter’s room for many years and a few pieces from Gwendolyn Evans in my son’s room. Oh, and one from Jess Polanshek too! @polanshek (I added a photo of them to the reel to share with these artists that they’re also part of this tradition!)

Thanks to those who made it to the two openings this weekend! The first was at SPACE Gallery @spacegalleryvt on Friday night. My friend Kristin of @sweetenemyart and I enjoyed looking at all the work (over 400 pieces I think), and even popped into 2 other openings happening for First Friday in Burlington. On Saturday was the opening at the pop-up gallery at 60 Main Arts @smarts802 and our 1 year anniversary show! I loved seeing the balloons by Chris Lawless. What a cool display! We gave out some fun door prizes too. Feel free to pop in this month to check out either show if you missed it. 💕

Wow! I am BLOWN AWAY by the turn out for our Boozy Book Fair! @phoenixbooksvt killed it with the curated books and goodies, @1strepublic had a hell of a tap line, and the @cracklingemberscandleco candles sold out! Thank you to all the people, including my friends and family, who came to shop and socialize. It was super cool to see the books I picked specifically for this event fly off the shelf! If you missed out, don’t worry, I have a feeling #SpookySeason will bring out more brews and books!

In my hope that we start amplifying the artists in our path let me introduce a few more of the creatives that impress the hell out of me- @benjamin_aleshire just opened up a gallery down in Brandon area, his photography is unique and incredibly beautiful. Andrea of @stitched_sarcasm is adept with a needle and floss and a quirky sense of humor, @handcuthodgepodge Heather is a whirlwind of glorious creativity and when the wind settles it channels into wonderful collages that you can’t stop exploring. Jesse @jessemileschainsaw and his menu of bears, whales, food in interesting positions is an artist you must seek out during your burlington pine street rambles. Lastly one of my favorite people who is just pure joy in person and on the canvas is @sweetenemyart Kristin Richland. She is an artist of whimsy and fairytales you want to dive into and just one of the best people to be in the presence of in the this world. Seek them out, buy their art. Vermont is richer in character and beauty because of them. #vermontbyvermonters #vermontartist #vermontmaker #art #vermonting #amplify #seeing

📣’Flash the Headlights’ Opens First Friday June 6, 5-8pm! The art has been selected and it’s heartfelt and ready to connect with the viewer!

SEABA asked artists to “Flash the Headlights” a prompt meant to evoke the feeling of flashing your headlights at night to warn other drivers on the road of an upcoming hazard. Taking that concept and translating it into artwork, selected artists thoughtfully express their feelings of care or concern for others in pieces made of a range of materials from metal, fiber, paint, to mini installations. The theme is conveyed in compositions varying from overt to abstract. SEABA invites you to explore the work and read accompanying statements from the artists on their interpretations of the concept in this unique summer exhibition, guest curated by Kristin Richland and Christy Mitchell.

Join us and 5 other open studios at The Vaults and surrounding alleyway for June’s First Friday Art Walk! 🙌

3 Floors of The Vaults, 28 Howard Street, Burlington, VT
June 6 - August 2, 2025
Self guided tours open daily until 5pm.
