Fashion Targets Breast Cancer was already a global phenomenon, bringing together the fashion world, supermodels and celebrities in support of breast cancer. So it was kind of wild that just a few months after Rethink officially launched in 2001, we were the charity to bring the stylish campaign to Canada!

Thanks to the support of our fashion industry, we were suddenly on the cover of @fashioncanada and in store windows of @holtrenfrew across the country. And an incredible lineup of Canadian celebs and fashion names stepped up to sport our t-shirt and show off their support. This campaign was a huge hit, driving so much awareness and impact.

For a tiny new charity with some very big ambitions, it was all pretty unreal. And an early sign of what could happen when a strong vision and creativity, courage and care all collide to make big things happen on a short timeline. It remains one of our most memorable moments — and pretty iconic, if we do say so ourselves. 😉

Thank you @sweetpotatochronicless for helping these Etobicoke cats! These kittens showed up in a backyard just over a week ago but with no mama. There were different guesses for age but I think they’re 3 months? The first step was to identify the kittens age, and also confirm whether other cats were coming when no one was looking. Our plan is to trap the cats and assess them for rescue.

Packing up 20+ years of life in this house (and my kid-free life before this) means everything I touch reminds me of who we were, or who we thought we might become.

I’m struggling to decide what to do with the dog-eared, Post-it and grease-stain covered cookbooks of some brilliant, talented friends I’ve been lucky to become acquainted with and call friends over the years.

I lived a stone’s throw from the legendary Bamboo when I first moved out. I’m including this here as a bookend to the chapters I’m closing. Also, my 90s nostalgia is so present right now thanks to @lovestoryfx 😂

@amyrrosen’s Generation Eats was gifted to me for my wedding in 2000. It was the book that taught me how to cook new staple dishes that I hadn’t been taught at home. And it’s still full of hits. (This gringo still makes the Mexican Layered Dip for many potlucks!)

@emmawaverman and @eshunmott’s Whining and Dining came out when I worked at Random House Canada and I instantly wanted them to be my big sister mom friends. 💗 Thankfully, that came true. (And I still make the brownies when I’ve had a little too much 🌱)

@cerimarsh and @sweetpotatochronicless book came out when I worked at @todaysparent with their former @fashioncanada colleagues @leahrumack and @karine_ewart.

These women were my 90s/early aughts magazine editor icons. And suddenly they were friends, also navigating picky eaters and potty training. They saved many a lunchbox meltdown.

@mairlynsmith I met through our mutual friend Z, and then through work. Mair’s book came at a time when my body was changing and my kid became pescatarian. I needed to change what I cooked to meet our new needs. Spicy Slow Cooker Vegetarian Chilli forever. ❤️

Thanks pals ❤️

I can’t believe Halloween is this week 🎃 Musical Massacre was our theme last Halloween on @morningshowca. Everyone was dressed as a musical theatre character. I loved being the Glinda to @carolynglobal’s Elphaba from ‘Wicked.’ But I can’t wait for our Halloween show on Friday. The theme this year is soooo good 🔔

I may have missed my sweet friend Laura on set at @morningshowca , but there was no way I was leaving Toronto without seeing her!💙

What a perfect send off, I was invited to her beautiful home, treated to an incredible brunch, and then personally chauffeured to the airport (seriously, who does that?!). 🍳☕️✈️

@sweetpotatochronicless has shared so many mouthwatering recipes over the years on her platforms, and back in December, she even featured one of our family’s favourites on a Morning Show segment, and gave a shoutout to both my mom and me.🥺💕 @mola.setsu

This woman is a powerhouse of talent, warmth, and creativity, and I feel so lucky to call her a friend. TMS has gifted me some incredible connections, and meeting Laura in person was such a special full-circle moment.

You can find her cookbooks on Amazon and explore more of her amazing work at www.sweetpotatochronicles.com.

Laura, next time I’m bringing my cookbooks to Toronto for your signature! 😜🖋️💫

Cucumber & Snap Pea Salad

Laura from @sweetpotatochronicless and I are at it again! I made her one of my most delicious and fresh salads…and I left it all with her. Whatever happened when I left is a mystery. 😆

Super fresh and delicious! Add protein for a full meal.

Follow me for more non-boring salad recipes and delicious family recipes.

Ingredients:

Dressing:
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tsp mustard
2 tsp maple syrup or honey
1/2 tsp chili flakes
salt & pepper to taste

Salad:
2 cups snap peas, sliced
2 cups cucumber, quartered and sliced
4-5 green onions, chopped
1/4 cup feta cheese
handful fresh herbs, chopped (parsley, basil, cilantro-whatever you like!)
1/4 cup sliced almonds

Directions:

Make the dressing in a large bowl by whisking together all of the ingredients.

Add all of the salad ingredients into the bowl with the dressing and toss. Serve right away or pack in a sealed container in the fridge. Eat within a couple of days.

When serving, you can top with additional almonds, feta, and green onions if you like.

I honestly said “Wow!” when I took my first bite. I love this salad!

Let me know if you make it and how you like it. I love to see when you make these recipes.

🌟 Monday Motivation: Let’s Talk Perimenopause 🌟

Today, we dove into a topic that affects so many of us but isn’t talked about enough—perimenopause. Did you know it can start 2-8 years before menopause, with the average age of menopause being 51?

Some surprising symptoms that could be linked to perimenopause include:
💭 Anxiety, depression, and brain fog
💪🏾Lack of confidence and self-esteem
⚖️ Weight gain
👀 Dry eye
❤️ Heart palpitations
😤 Irritability
🦷 Even changes in your teeth!

Unfortunately, perimenopause is often misdiagnosed, and it’s not as simple as a blood test to pinpoint what’s going on. But here’s the good news—you can take charge of your health!

✨ Do your research.
✨ Find a healthcare provider who listens to you.
✨ Advocate for your well-being, because you deserve it.

And most importantly, remember this: You are not a broken woman. 💖 Let’s break the stigma and start talking openly about this. SHARE this message because you never know who might need to hear it today.
