One of the more interesting cultural arcs over the last 10 years has been the negative portrayal of alcohol and partying.

Gen Z are drinking significantly less than any other generation, and the popularity of smart phones and surveillance technology has created an anxiety around acting like a twat that we simply didn’t used to have.

Combine this with bro-optimisation and cold-plunge culture, and the equation for young people is that the positives don’t outweigh the negatives.

However I’ve been sensing a cultural shift back towards seeing partying as a positive way to build a fulfilling, interesting life. Driven by economic nihilism (what are we optimising for?) and a rejection of health-lords as gatekeepers for how we should live our lives.

There’s also something to be said for social media giving an incredibly skewed perception of how people generally live their lives. The most interesting person you’ll ever meet over a pint is successful, happy and doesn’t use social media - but they’ll never show up in the discourse.

A poll by @emilysundberg on professionals in NYC found that 28% of people go out 5+ nights a week (!!!)

So my question to you, is the party over?
