Built-in sunscreen?! Yasssss!!

@thefabricshop.au was so generous in letting me try their print-on-demand fabrics! Not only could I choose from so many Artists’ designs, I could also choose the colourway AND the fabric. With summer coming up, I wanted to make my own rashie, and of course it had to be a fun looking one! (Btw, use LORRAINE at checkout for 10% off!)

I chose their UPF 50+ swim/sport stretch, which was so thick and stable while being stretchy. I landed on Catherine Marion’s designs, which are the embodiment of opulence - you NEED to check out her prints. I landed on the Native Aotearoa print, and being a neutral girly of course I chose the brown colourway!

The sewing pattern I used is @swimstylepatterns Rashie Top, using the free zip hack that comes free with it.

Paper Daisy border print in a Tamarama Shirt!

I’ve been a little MIA recently, I’ve been working on a special project over the last few months but in the mean time i’ve been able to whip up some fun sewing projects.

I had been sitting on quite a few meters of fabric left over from my wedding dress and now that spring has rolled around it felt only right to use it up! I’ve made the Tamarama twice before so I knew I already liked the fit, all that was left to do was plan out the placement! The key design elements I wanted to hit was for the border to sit flush at the bottom of the shirt and the sleeves to look like they were a continuous part of the main body. I think she turned out just perfect!

I was lucky enough to go on the flannel flower walking track in the Bouddi National Park, with lots of beautiful flannel flowers out on show. I have a small plant growing in my yard which I love but seeing hundred of plants flourishing was quite special. I painted some flannel flowers for this print, they are hiding at the bottom of the border ☺️

If I was to pick just one item as my favourite to sew it would have to be a shirt dress.

This is the Ritual Shirt and Dress pattern by @swimstylepatterns

I need to confess I’m super picky about shirt dress patterns. I want clean finishes, practicality, good fit and lots of classic shirt detailing. And even with that I will nearly always modify depending on my mood.

This pattern features a classic collar, a box pleat at the back yoke, and exposed casing in the outside for a drawstring waist. Both placket and collar and collar stand are oversized compared to other similar patterns I own. Ritual has side slits finished with deep hems and the instructions would suit anyone sewing their first shirt, they are detailed, clear and logical.

I shortened the sleeves to short with cuffs, the pattern comes with a long sleeve option with button placket closure.

I added pockets, using the Tessuti method of sewing them in seam as this ensures that they stay front facing and do not flop around. There is a great video tutorial with, you won’t look back.

If making again I would also add a hanging loop , it’s just one of those classic shirt details I like.

Fabric is 100% cotton shirting and it’s crisp with a cool hand feel.

Sewed according to the size chart and would size down by one in future.

Similar patterns include the Reeta Shirt Dress from Named Patterns which instead has a camp collar, the Assembly Line oversized shirt pattern and the TFS Bloom shirt all of which I’ve used, love and have adapted to achieve a similar finish. If you’re after the option to button up, your best is the Ritual Shirt Dress as the stand size is generous and roomy. I’ll be making it again and adapting more. Can’t help myself.

As soon as I saw this fabric I knew I needed to make a long sleeved button up shirt, it’s a cool take on a striped shirt with the added flower pattern detail.
I love the ritual shirt pattern, the more I make it the better I get at all the finer details. Very happy with the cuffs 😍

Finished my new fav set over the weekend! I used the cutest vintage jersey stripe fabric from @fluidplusdrape and made the Freddy top by @sewingmachina + Tamarama pants (graded from M at the waist to XS at the legs) by @swimstylepatterns. This is the comfiest set and I can’t wait to wear it all season long!

Ultra-comfy #karlaloungewearset 🤍 I went with white even though I know it’s bound to cop a few stains 😂

I found this cotton at @drapersfabrics while I was on holidays in Melbourne, and it was absolute perfection. Of course, I had to make the good old faithful #Karlaloungewearset from @swimstylepatterns ✂️
I didn’t have any elastic… so by default, I’ve got bell sleeves instead of the elasticated ones

I love when you walk into a fabric shop, spot something and instantly know what you’re going to make with it. Even better when you can buy just the right amount, so there’s no waste or little bits to ‘add’ to the stash.
