“Haz o muere!”

☄️🪩

Continuing the trend of extremely belated show posts (also get ready for some terrible quality pix)…

At the start of this semester, I directed and was in my best friend, Ley Nikfarjam’s, play, Silly Teen Prom Play, and FIU’s first Carpe DM production. This was also my directorial debut (yay!!)!

This is my favorite thing i’ve ever been a part of. From the first time Ley showed me a draft of this story, I fell in love with everything about it. I think it is such a beautiful love letter to growing up queer in Miami. Like I said in my non-speech at the end of both shows, I love queer people. I love trans people. I love South Florida. I hate South Florida. You don’t get to hate it unless you love it type beat. You can try to erase us but we will never let it happen.

And also! I think this is, at its core, trying to answer the age old question: “is there life after high school?”. Ley says: “Silly Teen Prom Play is, fundamentally, a show about how high school sucks but graduating feels like the end of the world”. I tried to think of a different way to put it, but, as per usual, he always puts it best :).

And I agree!! Having just graduated (yay!), and having started this directorial process on the precipice of graduation, I couldn’t have related more to the terrifying, ever present fear of graduation. Or The Comet. Or whatever!!! I can definitely say that this show helped me navigate that fear with the knowledge that I had the ability to be a part of something I was proud of. And that made everything a little less scary.

(continued in comments it’s yap city central over here)

Lord of the Flies, December 2025. A show where we got to thrash around, be kids, laugh, fight, cry, all of these both on and offstage. The greatest part of doing a show with such a big cast and creative team is how many wonderful people I got to meet and work with. The worst is how many posts I’ve been tagged in today. A big apology to Ralph, who gaslit me one too many times

Lord of the Flies Dec '25| It's always fun to play the villain but I hope I also showed a side of Jack that's hard to see. He's insecure, scared, and a kid like everyone else. That said, my favorite part was Roger choking Ralph ❣️
