My heartfelt thanks to Mr. Shohei Okada, journalist Hiroshima General Bureau
Asahi Shimbun newspaper for his excellent article.
It is not a professional translation into English, but he kindly sent it to me.
I believe we will surely meet!

The remains of the school destroyed by the Russian attack. Walls and roofs crumbling, scattering blocks. Curtains with holes flutter in the wind. In front of them a young Ukrainian plays the violin. Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away in March, plays a song filled with anger and sorrow at the Russian invasion. The young man mourns Sakamoto's death and hopes that the war will end.
"Sakamoto-san was very aware of what was going on here in Ukraine, and he gave me and the Ukrainian people the greatest gifts a musician can give,"
said Kyiv musician Ilya Bondarenko, 21, in an online interview on 5 April.
Bondarenko and Sakamoto collaborated last year on a song called "Piece for Illia". He filmed the clip on the ruins of a destroyed school to convey the seriousness of the invasion. On the sad news, Sakamoto said: "I feel like the father of music is gone."
Bondarenko is active as a violinist and composer. Five years ago he met people from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and played a violin brought back from Hiroshima after the A-bombing.
In March last year, after the invasion began, he released a video of himself performing with more than 90 violinists from nearly 30 countries, calling for donations for humanitarian aid.
Sakamoto learned about Bondarenko through US media news of the initiative. In a written interview with the Asahi Shimbun newspaper last summer, he said: "I felt the beauty of the sound of his violin on TV." An American musician offered to collaborate with Bondarenko, and he replied: "By all means.
An invitation from Sakamoto, "a legend" to Bondarenko, came as a surprise. When Sakamoto asked for advice on a composition, he readily agreed.
Sakamoto said of the song: "I expressed my anger and sadness about the unreasonableness of this war, as well as my thoughts on Ukraine. Some quoted the Ukrainian national anthem.
More than a year after the invasion, hostilities continue.

Гуманітарна місія або три дні з життя волонтерів у Херсоні 🇺🇦
6-9 квітня ми провели чергову гуманітарну місію до Херсонської області.

Якими були ці дні для наших волонтерів? Та що встигли зробити?

⚡️Привезли допомогу до місцевої лікарні;
⚡️Надали допомогу сім‘ям з дітками в Херсоні;

Дякуємо за відео @bogdan_igorev_ich

Ryuichi Sakamoto, «The Last Emperor“ of Motion Picture Music, passed away. Sakamoto got named so after his famous collaboration with Bernardo Bertolucci for his soundtrack, which won the Oscar for the composer. Ryuichi san is a Japanese planet in world music. An entire era is gone with him, an era of music that is subtle, transparent, and at the same time filled with deep philosophical meaning. I am delighted that I have had the privilege of working with this great master! We had plans to work together in the future... but alas.
Dear Ryuichi san, you and your music will always be in my heart. Your gift, «A Piece for Illia,» is priceless to me. You are a tuning fork for me today in many ways. Despite all the complicated circumstances, you have fought and you have created your art - a pure essence of life, until the very end. Ryuichi Sakamoto, you are a true samurai for me, a warrior of light. I bend my knee.🙏❤️

Dear Japanese 🇯🇵! I’m proud of us! Japanese leadership is supporting Ukraine the strongest among Asian countries. We also, thank you for a lot of donations and for adopting evacuees.
When the war of Russia against Ukraine started in 2014, Japan was the only Asian country to have imposed sanctions on Russia. We will never forget this.
Please continue your support🇺🇦 #ukrainethanksyou #standwithukraine #ukraine #slavaukraini

🇯🇵 Japan’s Fumio Kishida met 🇺🇦 President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv this past week during a rare, unannounced visit by a Japanese leader that underscored Tokyo’s emphatic support for Ukraine in its fight against 🇷🇺 Russia’s invasion.

The Japanese prime minister had been the only leader of the Group of Seven (G7) rich nations yet to visit Ukraine, which has seen an outpouring of popular support in Japan following the Russian invasion.

The visit by Kishida underscore deep divisions in northeast Asia toward the war in Ukraine, with Japan pledging substantial aid for Kyiv, while China remains a lone voice supporting an increasingly isolated Putin — now a global pariah and suspected war criminal.

In the face of China’s growing assertiveness and global reach, Japan and the United States have moved closer in recent years, especially on regional security and intelligence cooperation.

Japan is also a member of the Quad, the informal group focused on security that includes India, Australia and the United States.

In a statement released Tuesday, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Kishida’s visit to Ukraine was at Zelensky’s invitation.
