Happy Throwback Thursday. Classes have started this week at most colleges across the country and world, including at @appstate in Boone, North Carolina! 🖤💛

Tap dance is thriving at Appalachian State, and the group making that happen in those mountains of western North Carolina is the @syncopationasu, the school’s student-run, on-campus tap dance club! Here’s a TBT memory from this awesome group, Choreographed by Madelyn Shepard (@madelyn.shep; @madelynshepardtaps), Class of 2026!

and just like that the story of my college dance career is finished 🤍
coming to app i had no idea what dance would look like and was hesitant about continuing my journey. that’s when i met the program that help me grow my love and affirm that dance in a different form than what i knew is just as rewarding. app state dance will always be a huge part of my heart and the reason i continue to love dance. as i enter the next stage of life i am excited to see what dance will look like. thank you syncopation for the most joyful and special showcase to end on! you guys have my whole heart 🤍

Choreographer Spotlight: Bella Pavia and Sydney Willis

Lover Girl
About: We chose this song because we love Laufey and her musicality works perfect with tap. Inspiration for this dance came from one of Sydney’s combos she taught at a class.

Message to dancers: Thank you so much for working so hard this semester, we love you and are extremely grateful for you!!!

Choreographer Spotlight: Sydney Willis

Vroom Vroom
About: Inspiration for this dance struck me when I was at the gym on the treadmill one day! After I got off I went to the yoga room at my apartment and choreographed a solid combo and knew I had a vision for a group dance. I have danced to Charli XCX many times throughout my dance career and love the energy she gives. This dance is all about girls and having a good time with friends!

Message to dancers: I want to thank my dancers for working so hard, and hearing me out with all my crazy formation changes! I love y’all so much and can’t wait to see this piece come to life!!
