POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Decided to break my personal art hiatus by doing a fun series of render studies, based on vibes.

So, here's the first one, based on this beautiful sketch by @sylessae (thank you for letting me use your sketch as a study base :D )!

I really wanted to do a value study, inspired by the moody mysterious, noir-esque lighting, often found in vintage Hollywood actress' portraits. Plus, for some reason, I'm very into elves, at the moment. Hence, here we are; a moody, hollwood noir elf. Could be a fun setting for a D&D game, no? xD

Ayt ayt, this time I'll lead with the music selection - for once?

Like the last playlist, this one wasn't doing too well, especially when it came to expressing the "genus loci" of the story, which is what I try to capture when I make them because when I listen to the music as I create/recreate these drawings, it helps set the mood while doing the work... and although Dr. Danger IS about a bunch of kids who get super powers as punishment for kicking a soccer ball through the local witch's window, it's not about actual power...so I stopped looking and instead, luckily thought to place myself in their environment to help guage which direction I should head.

Cue an instant leap to my playlist of favourite old school house songs on one of my YT playlists (which I'm not showing since none of the titles worked well enough) but it helped re-orientate the vibe and intention right back to the source because this story takes place in a township - well, our level of townships in South Africa to be specific.

Then came the happy coincidence of the final song choice matching (with very annoying accuracy) not just the look but the contextual goal of this main character as well?

Heck, even its video suits the moral of the story to the t!

Anyway, insta is doing that thing where it blacks out when I try to add the song BEFORE posting so here we go again with the late addition of it hurrumph- and yes;

I actually came across RKS through this very song and have been a fan of their sound since 2020, when I wasn't messing around with boys and thus finally actually listening to music that was uninfluenced by anyone else's taste.

The character himself was based off some lost spark in my eye that alot of people still keep commenting on... this one child friendly story quickly centered itself around that theme as the now "gifted" children learn through the years how the witch's blessing is actually a curse on their friendship- thanks to the one catch that only the most powerful of them would keep their ability once they turn 18.

Oh, also if an adult sees it, it goes away too.

What if I told you that the craving for normalcy is greater in each person than the desire to be different?

Think about it.

We all feel both at any given moment, and finding the best middle ground between the two is where we always hope to land: a place we've all come to collectively dub as "the comfort zone," right?

However, no matter how epic aiming high looks and feels, the natural need to be grounded always draws us back just like gravity simply because it is where we are safest.

And nature is far from the only notion through which to observe this phenomenon on every level.

Just look at every famous person who ever made it out there.

Not a single one does not miss home.
Or at least, some sense of a place where one feels safest.

And how fitting is it that a hug is the closest we all come to feeling it.

That's all Oleander (yes, this guy lol hence all the floral arrangements cos his mom named all the kids after her favourites) realises he needed after his super-rich-kid lifestyle falls apart at the hands of one man who ganbled it all away on a horse that had won every race it had ever run before its now first loss: his father.

His father is the one man, not the horse's father dangit it still doesn't make sens-

With what they manage to salvage, the rest of his immediate family moves back to the house in the suburbs his mom grew up in - that she thankfully still has in her name.

With a fresh tattoo he doesn't even remember getting after partying the hardest during their last night in Tokyo City, Oleander did seem to be taking it wayyyyy better than the others, remaining calm throughout the ordeal and even disappearing to explore the neighborhood while they contended for the best rooms.

That's when he, the boy, meets a girl quietly tending to her garden in this comical idea called Deadend.

And just like comfort food, it very quickly became my one and only comfort narrative, first drawn during 2017... yes, that very era when my own soul too felt furthest from home.

Unlike all my other stories, it's the only one about normal everyday life.

Trying to create some new habits inspired by @sylessae on blue sky, followed up by two sets of prompts I found for November. (One is strictly vending machines 🙃 and one is @kidlitart_drawing_challenge )
.
Here is to creating new habits.
Shifting focus truly to art.
And finding success within self.

When you wake up with a beautiful ocean for hair, but you ain’t got nowhere to go.

These past couple days, I’ve been sick with a fever/strep throat/idfk. Seems like everyone is super sick as of late. This junk seems it might be gone by Friday.

When stuck in a rut I draw ✨women✨ so here’s my participation in @sylessae ‘s #dtiys challenge.

I’ve combined it with the limited color palette challenge from @zsvisuals . Not sure I’ll be seeing the whole thing through but I will try to do multiple.

This was my sketch for @sylessae 's #surieldtiys 🥰 I started colouring her in but it wasn't going the way I wanted it too (which happens sometimes😂) so I wasn't able to complete it before the deadline💔
Plus with commissions and being sick I had to manage my time before leaving for Christmas 😅 BUT I thought I would post the sketch version for you all! I'm so excited to see the winning artwork! 🤩🎉

I finished this DTIYS challenge hosted by the lovely Sylessae!🌸 I really enjoyed creating this piece and the background challenged me but in a good way😊💕 It sometimes is best to push past barriers when it comes to art that can make you feel nervous it can create development in a important way. I hope I gave her justice✨
