This was a challenging year to say the least. I was navigating my full-time work, a part-time masters as well as concussion symptoms and then autoimmune condition that flared up out of nowhere but, it really wasn’t out of nowhere. I love pushing myself to the limit because I believe in excellence, standards and accountability. Showing up is important but learning to say no and understanding our limitations and boundaries is also important.

Even though my research focus for psychology is most consistently sustained ambition and burnout, I was grateful to understand the challenges in navigating multiple deadlines and lives yet again and being humbled by the process. Doing this on top of having to deal with the passing of my masi was not something I was anticipating nor ready for. For what we want to build, we sacrifice for the vision but enjoying process and prioritizing is more important.

if we can’t be gentle with ourselves, who can we be gentle with? If we can’t be more loving to ourselves? How can we love better? If we’re not learning the lessons that we we are to learn, how can we teach better?

Thus comes the need for intentional breaks and pacing ourselves. You must always ask yourself what is the hidden cost?
