In "Biotic Unraveling" by Llyr, Lindred, and @symbios.wiki, a lush and sentimental landscape representing healthy and abundant biodiversity is punctuated and disrupted by percussive impacts and textural abrasions whose intensity inversely track trends from the Living Planet Report 2022 (WWF/ZSL), which shows averaged relative population levels for studied animal populations since 1970. Curves for five geographic regions drive selected parameters of distinct sounds, allowing the listener to hear their differing trajectories, while the global ‘Living Planet Index’ curve controls the retrigger rate of an all-encompassing thud illustrating an average relative decline of 69% over the course of the piece.

The artistic data sonification is intertwined with thousands of AI-generated images to create a homage to both Godfrey Reggio’s iconic film "Koyaanisquatsi" and John Michael Boling’s video for Oneohtrix Point Never’s "Boring Angel". This technique, a deliberate pastiche, probes the ironic nature of reproducing and consuming art in the digital age, where "poor images"—low-resolution, easily reproducible, and often devalued—serve as the raw material for artistic sincerity.

The result is an audio-visual artwork that confronts the urgent issue of diminishing biodiversity on Earth through the lens of data sonification and artificial intelligence; simultaneously provoking reflection on ecological, or ‘biotic’, degradation and the decline of the communication mediums which have the power to drive awareness and change.

⚠️Slowly Fading into ‘SUICIDE’⚠️ at @sonarfestival

An experimental and artistic data sonification and visualization on MENTAL HEALTH, using Spain’s last 20 years of SUICIDE RATES. A project premièring the ‘S.F.I.D. – The Neural Network’ (in collab with @neutone_ai) and part of ‘Temporal Tide’, a @soundobsessed collective piece for Sónar+D and @startseu, raising awareness through sonified data with visual narratives about crucial issues listed by “The @unitednations ’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals”.

“Solarpunk Migrations” takes pixels as midi sequencers to tell a poetic story about the migratory data between future human civilisations and their plant-based technologies.

By using Solarpunk AI imagery generated over the past 3 years, we transformed selected images to video with #comfyui using a variety techniques (steerable motion, LCM models, AnimateDiff with IPAdapters, etc) and used these videos as an instrument to generate audio.

In @touchdesigner we sample rows of pixels with dynamic sampling windows to create sequencers constantly shifting MIDI values based on the RGB values of the currently scanned pixels. 🌈

This MIDI is sent to @ableton via Ethernet and controls various instruments and parameters designed by my collaborator @maneeech (Tom Guida). 🐬👼🏼

I’m so so happy to be able to share this work publicly at @sonarfestival this week for the first time, as a part of the Temporal Tides data sonification collection from @soundobsessed 👽

Glad to be at Sonar+D,(@sonarfestival) suported by S+T+ARTS (@startseu) this year presenting with @soundobsessed the piece Temporal Tide: Sonified Narratives for a Sustainable Future , a hybrid instalation with references on UN sustainability Development goals, presenting and questioning the actual state of the world with real data transformed in art, utilizing diverse A.I. tools as @neutone_ai , DAW's as @ableton and - Sonification Tools developed by @manifest.audio.

It was a challenging proccess of production and learning, thank you to all partners on this travel!!

I will stop now before got to personal and emotional, hahaha.

As part of a group exhibit for this year’s @sonarfestival, and in partnership with @startseu, Sound Obsessed submitted a collection of fixed-media vignettes which utilized, as their basis, data relating to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The aim of Temporal Tide is to interpret critical data as audio/visual narratives. It calls for awareness, reflection, and collective action.

The two pieces I created for this series focus on the following goals: Goal 4 Quality Education in Tertiary Education Expenditure and Goal 9 Industry, Innovation, Infrastructure in Building The Entopia. In both of these explorations a technique known as data sonification was the foundational process, whereby numerical values from csv filetypes is converted and mapped onto musical structure, determining melodic and rhythmic information.

Many thanks to @soundobsessed for believing in the additive collective power of all of the contributions in this collection, thank you @portraitxo for facilitating our workshops and steering the ship, @noahpred for providing the @manifest.audio M4L tools that he built and demonstrated, and the wider positivity the group conspired in a willingness to approach new techniques and ways of thinking about data.
