PROVIDENCE! (Part 2) Tonight, I experienced the fantasy of a book store a AND record store hosting a book signing for me, with a DJ and a professor both holding court as part of the conversation! A BIG THANK YOU to madison moore of Brown University for leading an in-depth Q&A about A NIGHT AT THE DISCO and my lifelong passion for the music that’s celebrated in the book. We actually did not plan to coordinate our outfits ... but the photo speaks for itself! Both of us were ready to sparkle under the disco ball ... and thanks to DJ Jacob Herschel, we got a chance to spin and twirl before the Q&A. I even got up DURING the talk when madison played “Nice ‘N Naasty” by The Salsoul Orchestra, one of my favorite tracks of the era, if only for that gorgeous string sequence. Jacob also had quite a fab vinyl collection, including a 12” of another favorite: “I Just Want to Be” by Cameo, which ties together two of my April promo stops in West Hollywood (home to Cameo’s first label) and Atlanta where I interviewed co-founder Tomi Jenkins. I love how these events feel like an extended conversation between cities ... Thank you to the warm and attentive audience who made me feel at home and thank you to the staff of Symposium Books / Symposium Records for my encore appearance in Providence!
