This one has actually been with us for over 15 years! You will have seen this setup on our early travel and green laneing videos. We have our first batch with us ready to go so we can get these on the web shop but we just need to pop out and do something first!

We are seeing so many of you like us who use 2WD vans for exploring and although you might really hanker after. 4WD Syncro this winch set up can give you some extra confidence to get you off that boggy field or remote camp spot without being up all night worrying about the rain. Bruces 1985 Westfalia. No expense spared Syncro conversion and full restoration.

After parting ways with another shop, my client was left with his 86 Syncro Westfalia in a condition that was beyond repair. One trashed syncro, a mint 2WD chassis, and hundreds of hours later; I had the privilege of handing his keys back and watching him drive off. And damn did it ever look good driving off into the distance.

@mansispeed engine management, @scheelmannusa vario seats, @wilwooddiscbrakes front and rear from @smallcarperformance, full suspension overhaul from @t3technique, and a bunch of NOS goodies sourced from my good friend @vanucampers. All parts blasted, painted or replated. Too many other details to list honestly!

Jakes 1985 Syncro Joker Westfalia.

A serious amount of time, parts, and new body metal went into this van. But when your van feels more of a family member than it does a vehicle, the effort is well worth it.

There was a period of time where the floor of the shop was just covered in mud from the UK, sand from Morocco, rust scale, and whatever else had worked it’s way into the frame rails. This Syncro has served it’s owner well for the past 20 years and it’s extremely rewarding knowing that thanks to my work, the next +20 years will be just as good for him and his family.

These two Syncros best represent the past +2 years of work for me in the shop. It’s difficult to put into words how much work went into these vans; the mind boggling amount of planning, non stop >60 hour work weeks, and endless details to remember and execute.

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity - and more importantly the trust - these guys gave me, building their forever vans. The scale of each project is way too big for just one post so I’ll follow up with more later. For now I just want to say thank you to Jake and Bruce for being all-star clients that could not have been easier to collaborate with. Thank you to my extremely supportive wife and baby boy for putting up with daddy’s bonkers work schedule and obsessive drive. And a big thanks to everyone who’s helped along the way, been following along, and supporting my business. It’s not possible without all of you #vanagonlife

Talk about a small world. My cousin @jedidiahawilson was recently on a road trip from Santa Cruz to Wyoming in his Syncro. Somewhere in the middle of Nevada, this split bus pulled up behind him that had “Rust Repair” written on the front. I figured it had to be @davebroenen in the Krust Bus so I sent Dave a message. He confirmed and sent me the 2nd photo of Jed’s bus in front of him. Haha awesome! #SmallWorld #VWbusFamily

The final episode of our cross country jaunt in my 41 year old VW Vanagon has dropped. Go check it out on YouTube. It was a fun trip that I will remember forever.
