Scenes from hosting Syndesi’s first event on 9/7 ✨ We shared the beauty of art from Greek artisans, food, drinks, and conversation. Stepping off of Ludlow St. into the space felt like being transported to Greece. It was a beautiful evening made by everyone who brought their energy here.

Syndesi means “connection” in Greek, so it only felt natural that our first event was about bringing people together. It’s the essence of Greek culture — gathering, community, hospitality, enjoyment.

It’s been a little over 2 years since I started sharing art and stories with Syndesi, so to see this come together in-person felt surreal.

Every artist I bring to Syndesi has their own story, and we’re a platform to share them. Getting to do that in real life brought even more life to the art and artists, and it feels really special to highlight these traditions and crafts, many of which are a dying art. When we bring a piece home, we can remember the hands that made them. Every time we look at it, feel it, use it, we connect to the story, the person, the place.

With a vision to create a place to connect to our roots no matter where we are in the world, I created Syndesi out of my own need for this. To create the feeling of home without needing to be in the physical place. To remember my lineage, and to remember love. That’s what this evening was filled with, so thank you.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it so special. Thank you to @sommwhere here for hosting us and bringing this vision to life — so grateful to you all! And thank you to my mama @dina_elef for coming out to support and making her famous kourabiedes! I love you.

Until the next one. ♥️

Last weekend, I had my first @syndesicollection in-person event. It was better than I could have imagined. I loved connecting with everyone, sharing the stories of artists I source from, and my own photography. That’s what’s it’s all about at the end of the day, connecting and sharing stories. That’s how we keep memories and traditions alive. That’s how we celebrate life. And remember where we came from—moving forward connected to our roots. Sharing the beauty in it. We even previewed our newest collection which hasn’t been released online yet, and already sold out half of it. Can’t wait to share it with you soon. And more to come.

Seeing this vision, that feels like an extension of my heart, come to life fills me up with so much joy and gratitude.

Thank you @greekpopupmarket for hosting us, my sister @natasa_elef for coming all the way out to NY to help me, and all my friends and family who came out to support.

Lots of love ♥️

I created Syndesi to write my story. To heal my past & ancestry. To rewrite our story. One that I want to pass on to future generations. To remember where we come from & relate to it with love & connection. My grandmother was my initial inspiration & muse for this project. To keep her legacy alive. I had hoped to bring it to life while she was still here to witness it, but she continues to be a guiding force for me. When she passed almost 4 years ago, I wrote her eulogy & spoke at her funeral. I also did so for my grandfather 10 years ago. There were so many stories & memories of their lives & our family’s history to share that had never been told. It was a beautiful honor to be a part of this rite & transition.

The impact that this storytelling had in just the small circle of my family made me realize how many stories are lost when we don’t tell them. How important it is to pass them down so we remember who we are. To feel connected to our roots. Even when we tell our difficult stories, it gives them the opportunity to be seen & alchemized. Remembering my grandmother’s stories connects me back to love.

And so, I want to spread this wider than my family. I want to tell our stories so we remember who we are, in our humanity & greater souls. To see the beauty in our journeys. So we move forward grounded & connected to ourselves & each other.

As I evolve, Syndesi continues to evolve with me. It is an artistic expression. It is healing. It is community. Every offering here comes back to this intention.
