What if I experience the world differently than you do? 🌈 Growing up with dyslexia, I often struggled with things that seemed easy for others—math, directions, remembering instructions, and understanding concepts. Sometimes I was perceived as not listening, paying attention, or trying hard enough. But I was listening. I was trying. Over time, these misunderstandings made me quieter, meek. I began believing perhaps I simply couldn’t understand the concepts others were trying to teach me. Yet, even as a child, I felt I understood something beyond words…the emotions, energy, and spirit of the people around me. I sensed things I couldn’t always explain. I wasn’t lacking understanding. I was experiencing understanding differently. I thought I’d taught myself to remember letters, numbers, and directions through colors, textures, and shapes. A seven has color and raised bumps. A nine has its own texture. Even music and movement evoke colors and sensations. Only later did I discover synesthesia—when one sensory or cognitive experience automatically evokes another. I wonder how many misunderstandings in my life and relationships came from processing information differently. How often did I become silent rather than risk being misunderstood? Today, I’m learning that when someone genuinely tries to understand how I experience information, communication becomes easier for both of us. And I’m finally finding my voice. 💙 I’d love to connect with others who experience synesthesia, dyslexia, or different ways of learning. Has it affected your learning, confidence, communication, or relationships? Have you ever felt misunderstood or become quieter because of it? I would love to hear your story and how you experience the world. 🌸 For so much of my life, I was trying to understand everyone else’s world. Now I’m learning to share my own. 💙 #Synesthesia #Dyslexia #hope #communication #hawaiilife
