POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hi everyone- here are some updates from September We recently had a Q&A which brought back some valuable responses and gave us insight into where we can work better together, as well as what is already working well. We hope this can be the beginning of more open conversations across the community. We’ve also created a story highlight from this with answers for some common questions, including about our equipment inventory and how to get involved The shared photo library is looking great, so please continue to send through pictures from your time in the space There is a lot happening in the space, including our ongoing Werk dance workshops and the new Soprano’s watch club. Our biweekly artmaking sessions will also return from 14 October. There are also upcoming gigs you can find in our post history as well as on flypost.ie, with some discounted member codes you can find on our Patreon, including for @synthetic_____memory, @rinkke.records and @lota_______ These events are made possible through the involvement of our volunteers and members who contribute via Patreon and help keep the space and community active This month we had 34 new members, making 813. From this we have collected €1600.00, as well as rent from our studio members, to pay towards rent and investing in the space Thank you all for your continued support

‘Infinity point’ installation in collaboration with Lauren Haughey as part of ‘Synthetic Memory’, Unit 44. 04/05/24, music/art event beautifully curated by @lychee800 Ly’s concept for this event was based around “digital ephemerality” - how this can create “glitches and errors which result in drone” - interrogating how the placelessness of the Internet interacts with our own cultural worlds… nurturing a scene that “exists beyond local confines while creating genre-bending sounds which reflect a period of multiculturalism and dissonance within contemporary music”. The installation myself and Lauren @velvetmold made was constructed from two one-way mirrors facing into each other, to create an uninterrupted interplay of reflections. The projections have a placeless quality, they existed at no one point, but warped and stretched through the space and beyond the space. Over the 12hr duration of the event the shifting light levels made the mirrors impenetrable at points, reflecting the viewer back at themselves. As the evening progressed and the night grew darker, the projections took over and created a feedback loop which grew stronger, and more elaborate. The imagery for the projection was inspired by the internet's relationship with the worldly and local - the satellite view. The video is a navigation of unit 44 through this lens, composed of clips from google maps, the stretching and glitching of the “street view”, composite panoramas exploring the 3D from this splicing of singular perspectives, close-ups tracking the cracks in the pavement as if road maps being tracked from space, and a visual collage of the ordnance survey markings which remind us of the connection between the local and the world-building of cartography. It was a one of a kind event, and I feel so grateful to have been part of it, especially alongside my closest friends. The line-up for the event was incredible, with such a diverse range of music and performance. I’m in awe of them! Not to mention the wonderful crew at @kirkos_ensemble All 12hrs of the events were livestreamed and you can watch it back on the kirkos youtube or through the link in the bio of @synthetic_____memory
