Creating spaces for meaningful conversations is crucial, focusing on holistic health—physical, emotional, and mental—as our driving force. 🌍❤️

Our seminar on « The Challenges of Living Between Two or More Cultures » resonated deeply within the African community. Hiding aspects of oneself is a common way of coping with the differences between the home environment and the dominant culture. Why? Because we all want to fit in and feel like we belong. We also don’t like to upset our families or risk being rejected and shunned by our communities. Ultimately, we want to be able to express all aspects of our identities without losing important ties. The amount of fear we might feel is likely proportionate to how strict our family/community is and how open they are to seeing your point of view.

We highlighted the importance of showing our youth that they don’t have to choose between cultures. Throughout life, they will grow into many things while never forgetting their identities.

A society is multicultural because of the many different cultural groups in the world. This means that it has succeeded past exclusion, discrimination, and most importantly oppression to become a more inclusive society.

Let’s continue to support and reassure each other in this journey.✨

🌟 Celebrating Black History Month: Meet Kareen SK of SK VYBZ 💃🏾🎶

Kareen SK, the founder of SK VYBZ, embodies the richness of Afro-Caribbean heritage. Born in France, where she spent most of her early years, Kareen's roots trace back to the vibrant islands of Guadeloupe and Dominica. Her life's journey has been a dance of cultural fusion. 💃🏾🏝️

Dancing, for Kareen, isn't just a hobby; it's a passionate inheritance. She adores sharing her Afro-Caribbean heritage through the art of movement. Her dance odyssey began in Paris, where she was an integral part of a 'GwoKa' and 'Bélè' band, mastering the traditional Caribbean rhythms of Guadeloupe and Martinique. For 14 years, she was a dancer, a drummer, and a coach, deeply rooted in the essence of her culture. 🥁❤️

In 2017, Kareen embarked on her SK VYBZ journey, bringing Afro-Caribbean beats to Cork. Her sessions are not just about dancing; they're a vibrant celebration of culture. Join her to tone up, burn calories, learn foundational steps, and most importantly, have a blast on the dance floor with beginner-friendly routines! 💥🕺🏽

So, if you're ready to groove, shout AYAYAYYYYYY!! 🎉🎵 #blackhistorymonth2023 #blackhistorymonthuk #afrocaribbeanheritage #dance #wematter #blackwomanlead #cork
