EP 소개에는 이렇게 적혀 있습니다 — ”Sometimes all you need is a microphone and a cat.“ 케임브리지에서 자란 프로듀서. ”You can start with a cat purr and make it into something crazy.“ Hugh Hardie (@hughhardie), who made his first visit to Korea for DARKLIGHT (@darklight_seoul), spent seven days in lockdown making one track a day. On the last day he allowed himself no loops and no samples, so he brought his cat Gretchen to the microphone. Compressed and distorted, that very quiet purr turned into a gnarly bass — and became ’Day 7 : Gretchen Bass‘. The EP notes put it simply: ”Sometimes all you need is a microphone and a cat.“ A producer who grew up in Cambridge. He first appeared on Hospital Records with ’Tearing Me Apart‘ in 2014 and moved to Soulvent Records in 2022. This year: the Hugh Hardie & Friends EP, ’Challenger‘ on Forza Horizon 6, and a monthly show on Kool FM. On how a deadline stops you overthinking, on what he does in the studio when nothing works, and on what a small scene actually needs to grow. Full interview at the link in bio!

“What have you done today? I’ve just listened to music for five hours — and yeah, that’s good.” Hugh Hardie (@hughhardie), who made his first visit to Korea for DARKLIGHT (@darklight_seoul) on August 29, still sits down in the studio on days when nothing is working. He builds individual parts — drum sounds, bass notes, chord progressions — and files them away for later, staying productive even when no tune he likes comes out. Spending hours listening to other music, he says, is a form of working too. A producer who grew up in Cambridge. He first appeared on Hospital Records with ‘Tearing Me Apart’ in 2014 and moved to Soulvent Records in 2022. This year brought the Hugh Hardie & Friends EP with Makoto and Amoss, ‘Challenger’ on Forza Horizon 6, and a monthly show on Kool FM. Hospital didn’t find him through a demo - Etherwood played one of his tracks in a mix. On what a week of seven tracks in seven days left behind, on why the hundreds of unfinished loops on his hard drive stay shut, and on what a small scene actually needs to grow.
