There is another type of cancer treatment! Dancing, movement, community!

Since diagnosis last year, I have barely danced. I’ve struggled to trust my body, to let go, to lose control, to be carefree - all the things that dancing is! Recently, I’ve been saying to Robin how much I have wanted to dance. But not be in an enclosed space where claustrophobia quickly sets in. Step forward We Out Here festival! Safe, inclusive, outdoors and full of great musical energy.

With the help of my dear friend Almass, a minibus of very magical humans headed down to Dorset to camp and dance in sunshine fields. And surrounded by this supportive community I gradually stepped into the energy of the festival. And WOW did it feel good. To think I was treating this cancer with chemotherapy into my veins 5 weeks ago, this certainly felt like another powerful kind of treatment; joy pumped into my soul!

With Stage IV Lung Cancer I am doing my first ultramarathon! In one month and one day I’ll attempting to walk 53km around the Isle of Wight alongside a bunch of incredible humans who have signed up to walk with me.

Since my diagnosis in January I have been on a magic pill called that has given me back my energy. Advancements in cancer treatment have meant that targeted therapies like my miracle Osimertinib pill have only come about through research. One day, this pill will stop working. And so we are raising funds for the TRACERx study. This study, supported by UCLH Cancer Charity, specifically looks into drug resistance in Stage IV Lung Cancer.

We will be taking on this challenge on 3rd May, 5 days before my 42nd birthday. As a marathon runner, non-smoker, vegan too (!) I never expected a lung cancer diagnosis but it is important to me to take this on; to show up for myself, my friends and family who have been so supportive. And, of course, to prove to my amazing medical team that all their hard work is giving me a fabulous life worth living.

Read more about my story and please donate all you can at the link in my bio.

With love and gratitude,
Sarah
