It’s really important to say YES to driving down to LA on a Friday when your old housemate #DarrenAlberti emails you on a Monday to say his short film ‘Soñado’ - that you helped out with in Guatemala - has made it into a film festival at Hollywood Boulevard @chinesetheatres. On the way home you might just see a miniature endangered red-legged frog get eaten by a tiny garter snake in Pinnacles National Park… ⚖️

Holy cow! My first and last experience acting (with lines) was back in 2021. Director #DarrenAlberti went out on a limb and asked if I’d be interested in playing a character named Raven (no coincidence), in a short he was working on called ‘Soñado’. It was being filmed in Guatemala with a small team & one of my best friends was in the crew.. I was of course terrified, but there way no way in hell I could say no. After years of tinkering on this beautiful film, it was finally ready to show for the first time at the @danceswithfilms film festival at the Chinese theater in Hollywood. Holy fuck. What an insane experience to see the final edit for the first time towering over me on a big ol screen along side so many incredible shorts. I had so much fun every step of the way, & left the experience feeling so jazzed about the strange, quite mystical and cathartic experience of acting. More on that another time, but safe to say I hope I’ll get to do more one day. ‘Soñado’ is a quiet and beautful film about grief, healing & how the heart in its process dances with time in mysterious ways. Im sure it’ll make it to the inter-webs available for viewing somewhere at some point, but for now it lives in select film festival competitions & in my memory! Here are a few little clips from last week & those 2 weeks filming about 5 years ago. P.s. shout out to my pops who takes it upon himself to diligently document all things, & who took those videos in the theater - with the phone sound at full volume and the flash *ON* ..🫪🫥💀 I scolded him then, but thank him now 🙃

RUEDAS (Dir. @stripmalldreams) RUEDAS will be premiering on Thursday, May 28th @laliff_ at The Egyptian Theater in Hollywood as part of the Inclusion Fellowship under Netflix’s Creative Fund. None of this would have been an actualized reality without the care our cast and crew put into this, as well as our donors who helped us support several local street vendors, in line with the messaging of Liz’s story! Synopsis: Ernesto, an elderly ice cream vendor traumatized by violence and neglect in Los Angeles, wanders the streets burdened by his loneliness. His routine changes when he encounters Eleguá, a deity disguised as a clown who challenges him to confront his traumas. Between reality and dreams, and with the support of his community, Ernesto rediscovers resilience and a new purpose in a world that believed him to be invisible.
