Nyx, my black working dog, asleep cuddled up beside me on the couch, snuggled up in a Sherpa blanket

The thunder was going on a few minutes ago, had been for about an hour. She was panting, hiding in tight spaces, wanting pats but not calming.
Curtains all drawn, I’d music on, gave her treats, tried to play; all to distract without any change.
Then suddenly she started standing & listening, like she knew the thunder was gone but wouldn’t believe it.
I asked her if she wanted to see & she led me to front door. Opened it up and she’s watching and I turned music off.
She’s so calm again, watching the rain and wind in the trees, birds on the grass. Ears pop backward now and then, listening for me, making sure I’m still there 🥰
My little enigma wrapped in a mystery…

This is her song.
This is our bond.
I’m sitting in front of her, the two of us just taking a moment, checking in on one another.
Nyx, you’re one in a million, I love you lil one 🐕‍🦺💕🐾 Nyx, the beautiful black dog, looking peacefully and lovingly offscreen at her guardian.

It’s… it’s behind me isn’t it?
Do you think I could save myself by distracting it with a game of fetch?
Or is it just misunderstood and wants a belly rub?
Wish me luck!!!

When she’s comfortable and snoozing, I give her a little scritch behind the ears.
Then she reaches out a paw and puts it in my hand, so she knows I’m there, and if I move.
She’s my lifeline and I’m hers ❤️
#RescueDog in every sense.

Today was a good day. Went to my sister’s for games with my niece.
Played Dragon’s Breath, Ice Cool 2, Tsuro, and Just One.

Watching my niece come up with clues; some of her word association blew me away.
Took turns teaming up with us, we’d explain words she wasn’t sure of (all whispered so no one else knew), helped her spell her clues, she did all her own guessing & got most right.

I can’t express how proud I am of her, or how much joy it brings me watching her light up at playing something new, or breaking out one of her faves.
