Unlike most Dutchies, I wasn’t raised on a bike.

Growing up on the cyclist-unfriendly streets of Brussels, with the ever-present voice of my Spanish mother reminding me of every possible accident that could happen, cycling was never really part of the plan.

That changed when I moved to Amsterdam for uni. Slowly but surely, the bike and I started becoming one.

Then came COVID, and like half of the population, I hopped on a road bike. The early days were mostly spent hanging on for dear life in my brother’s wheel on the flats and getting absolutely demolished the moment the road pointed upwards.

Six years later, not much has changed on the climbs, but I reckon I could give Nico a run for his money in a sprint finish.
