A few days late to posting this, but 6 years with this car! The places this car has taken me and experiences I’ve had with it is something I’m forever grateful for.

I always tell people this story but: I bought this car on whim. I wasn’t in the market for an E82. I just graduated college, just started my first full time job and just started making some money. I was in the market for an E92 M3 actually. I made a post on Facebook about looking for an E92. I got a comment from the prior owner who I’m friends saying I should just buy his 128i instead. It was already fully prepped for STX and had some pedigree behind it. I thought “well that’s what I want to do with the car and it’s already proven” so a week later I was buying the car, not knowing a whole ton about the platform.

In a mountain full of bad decisions, this is easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Digging further into this cars history, I actually found a forum thread from two owners ago who first started developing the car for SCCA use. It was really cool to buy a car, be familiar with it from seeing it destroy you at local events, then a whole extra layer of cool seeing that the car had pedigree from two owners ago (along with all of the accolades the last owner added). What I’ve done with the car feels minuscule in comparison.

The photo of a stock 128i is actually my car from back in 2014 before it became a STX car. It’s so cool to look back and have an idea of what the cars life was from 4400 miles to until I bought it at 64k miles (and now I’m at 139k)

Do I regret not buying an E92 M3? Only a little. Watching the values of those skyrocket kinda gives some FOMO. If someone offered to trade their E92 M3 for this car would I take it? Definitely not. I try to throw the keys to this car to as many people as possible to show them how underrated of a driving experience this gives. It’s such playful and nimble chassis that’s extremely communicative. All it’s missing is a high revving V8. The E9x front subframe and S65 does bolt right into the E82 though 🤔

Moving forward I plan to buy another fun daily soon, and this car will become a more focused track car, looking forward to it!

Well, I wasn't expecting to drift an R8 this weekend 😅 but so stoked I got the chance to! This car is really weird to slide, on track, you can get mild rotation and it corrects itself really tidy, but hucking it in with a flick and into a big drift, it becomes very difficult to control. There is such a small window between spinning and the car straightening out. Even though its AWD, the amount of torque split isn't enough to pull the car out, rather it wants to overwhelm the rears. Still so wicked to be able to do this.

Thank you @import_auto_logan for trusting me to do this with your car! And thank you to @saltcitydrift for letting me hop on the track for a couple quick skids!

This weekend will be the last time to see Klyphman wheel his GT4 Clubsport MR. Not because he’s dead but because there’s a new rocket ship inbound. #newracecarsmell

Come see Riot on track this weekend at @burtbrothersmp
