Romper Wall in Cave Fork Recreational Preserve Red River Gorge is opening this week (announcement at Rocktoberfest)! This is a great crag to visit with stellar climbs of all grades. In fact, Guillotine, Marie Antoinette, and Romper are all next to each at the French Quarter and are worth checking out immediately. Drillbilly walked the crag with Mike Bond, one of the crags main developers and Rob Smith (Cat Climbs Productions) guest athlete. This is just an overview vid, with some climb highlights to follow.

Once again the Fixed Gear Initiative nailed it (drilled it?) with Rebolt the Red 2026. Drillbilly interviewed Colin Howell (FGI) and Louie Allen (RRGCC) about some of the questions climbers may have about the new equipment they see at Oil Crack and Arena. There was a lot going on...this is just a snapshot of one small part of the organized chaos!

With September right around the corner, your car's suspension may have started worrying about the conditions of the roads at the Red. So what is the RRGCC doing about the roads? Thank you Dedra Brandenburg from Beattyville/Lee County tourism for the footage of the Motherlode Hill. And thank you Tara deCamp and Miguels where I find so many nice people to bug with questions. beattyvilleleecountytourism

On June 24, 2026, Erik Kloeker gave a training on how to remove a five piece expansion sleeve bolt so that the existing bolt hole can be reused for a new bolt (generally a glue in at the Red). Reusing bolt holes is desirable because it leaves less scarring and it preserves the historical line. Also, where the rock is heavily pocketed, there may be limited options for a new hole. The removal procedure in this post is for the best case situation where the expansion sleeve is not frozen to the bore hole wall. Stay tuned for more videos on removing a seized bolt. Rebolt the Red is coming soon so start practicing your unbolting skills! Thank you Erik Kloeker and Fixed Gear Initiative Colin Howell!

Yes, it is indeed Tara's Birthday! Especially if it's still Friday. Tara is a member of the RRGCC family (VP), the person everyone sees at Migs and frequent Drillbilly collaborator. And thank you for the birthday greetings from Emily Moscoe (E and O and Adaptive Climbing) Louie Allen (Executive Director) Tara Taylor checking in from her Ten Sleep vacay (Market Director) Madison Lindsey (E and O) Curtis Rogers (our Prez) and a bunch of kids at LEF Climbing Gym! Happy Birthday to Tara ❤️❤️

At least two climbing crags at the Red River Gorge are named after John Bronaugh. These are Bronaugh Wall and Johnny's Wall. How many routes at Bronaugh Wall do you think you could name? Drillbilly asked a few of the volunteers at Johnny and Alex Trail Day to test their brains after hard day in the mud. Thank you to: Land Manager Brian Kramer, @willysweeney, @tadecamp, Lilly and Mark, Jereme, Maggie, Anna, Ashley? Part of the trio at the tables. I should have grabbed names! And no thanks to Erik Kloeker who is too cool for this nonsense ha!

One of the joys of climbing at a brand new crag is discovering the loose and breaking holds. Over the past couple months I got video of three more rock fails to add to my growing collection. It definitely adds spice to sport climbing! Thank you Alex Serov, Nick Michalesko, Tara deCamp, Mike Bond, Jared Hancock, Juffrey Turley, Pete the Bird and Zach the Dog for letting me film and Austin Lillywhite for the trundle vid! #rrgcc #redrivergorge #weekendwhipper #routedevelopment

There is always something superb happening at the Red River Gorge. Not kidding. This past Saturday, some oil history experts, an ecosystem scientist, and the RRGCC exec director took a walk around Cave Fork Recreational Preserve in the Red River Gorge KY to see the new area and share knowledge. This is just a few moments from a beautiful day. Thank you Andrew Hawksley, Blair Ripley, and Louie Allen for leading the way! Also, shout out to Barb Graham (Wolfe County SAR and bat expert), Leigh Rose (Red River Museum) and Scott Hammon, and Chris and Tara for sharing all kinds of local info with the group.

Beauty and Charm (5.10b) is a sport climb at the Marie Antoinette Crag (aka Marie A) at Cave Fork Lake District in the Red River Gorge. RRG super local Tara DeCamp brings her signature athleticism and cool style to this high quality climb by route developer Juffrey Turley. Marie A and other crags in this area are scheduled to open after Johnny and Alex Trail Day in June so please check in at the RRGCC.org website for updates. This wall and most in this area have lots of moderates in addition to the usual RRG test pieces. Stayed tuned for a full crag overview coming soon on YouTube (Red River Gorge Drillbilly). #sportclimbing #redrivergorge

Sometimes climbing feels like a dance. I love the song Zoe Keating Sun Will Set and hope it hits others like it does me. Who knows. This climb is called Brioche 5.9 with a tougher than 5.9 start. At the Marie Antoinette crag in Cave Fork. Opening soon (before Rocktoberfest). Put up by developer extraordinaire Juffrey Turley. Try @RedRiverGorgeDrillbilly for beta breakdowns and chats with the Red River Gorge developers. But also to see the videos in the correct orientation 😊 #sportclimb #redrivergorge Thank you climbers Mike Bond, Tara DeCamp, and Alden Brom!
