Wrapping up a hell of a week at @palometaclub. The Permit were as difficult as ever, the beers were all cold, and the company and hospitality were top-notch. 🇲🇽

A potential IGFA world record may have just come out of the Rio Marié.

The second @tailwaters group of the season brought energy, humor, and friendly competition back to the river, setting the tone for a week filled with meaningful opportunities.

Then came the defining moment. Guided by native pro guide Carlos in a sight fishing situation, Andy landed a 93 cm, 25 lb peacock bass, the largest of the season so far and a potential tie for the current IGFA all length world record.

Strong fishing was only part of the story this week.

Favorable water levels created consistent opportunities for arapaima, tambaqui, and arowana, while the surroundings delivered encounters of their own. Giant caimans, abundant birdlife, and rare Amazon primates appeared throughout the days on the water, including the distinctive red uakari.

At Pirarucú, sometimes the moments between casts become part of the story too.

PAL
November 20, 2012 - October 9, 2026

Another brown dog from the Leake pack has said goodbye for now. I’ve never known such a noble, patient and sweet loving Labrador. We will miss the happy and more youthful days fetching and swimming, working at the fly shop, long hikes with Mel, all the mornings picking up birds, and so many miles in the truck. Despite all his health challenges in the later years, he was always the most dignified, loyal and tender companion.

Special thanks to Dr. Vandermeer, Dr. Hudson, and the whole team at the Highland Park Animal Hospital for all the years of looking after all our entire family. You guys are all angels.

Pal was a fine shop dog, retriever, family man, and true gentleman. Glad he is whole again running around finding some fun with Ace and Abbi. We will catch up one day on their side of the bridge.

Thank you, Palsy Boy. Such a good dog. We will always love and think of you, buddy.

Week 8 brought a different rhythm to the Rio Marié.

With rain and steadily rising water, anglers and guides had to read the river carefully, adjust their approach, and stay consistent throughout the week. The opportunities required more attention, but each one carried its own meaning.
