Ok, folks, we’re back for Round Two of Funk & Flow on Nov 30th! 🍷🧘🎶

You might know us for our Open House nights, but this one’s where we slow it down a bit and get to know each other. We’re kicking off at 6 PM with an all-level yoga session led by Vanessa (@vanessakiriakou ), followed by a funky natural wine tasting at 7:15 with @loganjamesross and Alta Wines - these aren’t bottles you’ll find at the LCBO. Wrap up the night with house tunes rolling till 10:30 PM.

We love wine, house track, and movin’ our bodies, so it only feels right to bring them under the same roof for the night . Limited spots - grab your tickets in the link in bio!

(3/3) “Removing major specialization until students are in grade 11 prevents students from building the foundation that they benefit from in earlier grades. Majority of what grade 9 and 10 teaches you is how to think, what questions to ask, figuring out what aspects of art you really enjoy and appreciate, what mediums you gravitate towards, etc. Here you’re taught how to analyze and how to formalize your practice.

Without this foundation, there isn’t as much room to mechanize and develop your artistic language in later years. And while exploring other majors can be beneficial to some, majority of students auditioning to ESA already know what they’re passionate about and what they want to major in. Therefore, forcing them to dapple in other areas where they have little interest is futile and only harms their education.

Instead of cutting funding to specialized programs and turning them into every other school in the TDSB in the name of “accessibility”, why not increase funding and encourage specialized schools so that more and more students have access to the benefits of these programs. You’ve seen the work being produced in these programs, the pieces being shown in galleries across the world, the number of scholarships being given, the number of films that have ended up in TIFF and other film festivals and the myriad of other accomplishments.

Clearly ESA is functioning incredibly well just the way it is and would only benefit from increased funding. So instead of changing and causing more harm than good to a program that is already thriving, why not implement more programs just like it. Increase access through increased funding and resources and encourage more students to pursue education in the arts.”

This is a project to show the public the value and impact of esa that people from the outside might not normally see. If you have a story about esa that you would like to share please send a DM to @saveourspecializedschools !

(2/3)“How will these new policies harm the program? Removing the audition process will harm these programs because while encouraging everyone to pursue art and explore ideas is a wonderful thing, removing the audition process prevents students who have a profound disposition and passion for art from developing their ideas in an environment that would help them thrive. With such a rigorous focus on art, students who already have an aptitude towards art are able to really dive into their passions and produce work that is meaningful to them.

The art program doesn’t teach students how to paint or draw, it teaches students how to conceptualize. Therefore, removing the audition process and allowing students without a background in art or who show a predisposition towards conceptual thinking into the program are going to suffer more than they’re going to thrive with the expectation that they’ll learn the basics of art like how to use different mediums. Yes, everyone can learn how to think conceptually but not everyone has the same passion for it that the students auditioning to ESA do.”
