Hello! I have a bummer of a life update to make. A few months ago I started feeling a throbbing pressure in my head when I stood up or laid down too quickly. On July 5th I found out I had a cavernous malformation (non-cancerous brain tumor) during an MRI. Because of its location it was blocking spinal fluid from draining properly. The excess spinal fluid was creating pressure in my brain and causing the throbbing sensation. This prompted an emergency craniotomy to remove the tumor, which took place 3 days later on July 8th. The surgery took over 8 hours and was a success, although they did decide to leave a small piece of the tumor (about 2 percent of it) behind to prevent potentially causing brain damage because of the sensitive area it was in. I then spent 2.5 weeks recovering in the hospital/rehab following surgery. I’m feeling much better now but the tumor was in the memory center of my brain so the recent weeks are a little jumbled and foggy and my short term memory is still not great. I will continue out-patient therapy for the next few months, and the plan is to return to work part-time on September 1st!

I want to thank my incredible support system for whom I am so grateful. They made sure I was never alone in the hospital and brought me plenty of activities to keep me busy as well as food to give me a break from hospital food.

Dia, my loving partner took on the brunt of the responsibility caring for me over the last few weeks and will continue to even more so now that I am back in our home as of today.

Steff, Arlin, Tim, Lily, Anastasia, and my mom all came to visit me during recovery and I was so grateful for the company.

And Abbey who is planning on coming down soon to keep me company while I continue to recover at home.

TW: the last slide is a pretty gnarly photo of my staples!
