Natalie Bergman at Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever — An Evening of Sublime Harmony

One would be remiss not to mention the staggeringly beautiful blend of vocals that filled the room. Bergman was joined onstage by Elisa Latrice, whose delicate, radiant vocals made for the perfect accompaniment. At most points, the two sang in the same key—a road less traveled by musicians, for it bears a larger margin of error—but not for them, as the pair matched in perfect harmony.

About midway through “Dance,” the album’s most pop-tinged track, both Bergman and Latrice organically slipped into an effortless jive, backed by a soulful instrumental break. This energy echoed among the crowd, who took after the artists and leaned into the groove. The songstress continued to nurture this carefree air, following with tracks “Looking For You” and “I Will Praise You,” with the latter off Bergman’s 2021 debut, Mercy. During these delightful songs, movement swept the audience, rendering the concept of stillness foreign.

Rachel Chinouriri closed out her set at the Fonda Theatre with back-to-back crowd pleasers: “The Hills,” “Can we talk about Isaac?,” “All I Ever Asked,” and “Never Need Me.”

During these, Rachel Chinouriri gave it her all, and displayed remarkable breath control given that she danced throughout her entire set—the playful kind, as one would when alone in their bedroom. Her palpable buoyancy cast a spell upon every occupant of the room, leaving no audience member still.

Looking back, save for pajamas, the show contained all the ingredients of a slumber party—laughter, gossip, heartache, carefree dancing, and most importantly, irrefutable childlike joy.

The South African singer-songwriter @alicephoebelou, though far from it, seemed at home on the stage—her mismatched socks planted gently on the stage floor, proof of this. Playing a healthy mix of lesser-known tracks, beloved hits, and self-proclaimed “gentle bangers,” the songstress held the crowd’s engagement in the palm of her hand throughout her set. Her unwavering, warm vocals, coupled with tight, seamless arrangements from her band, left every listener aching for more as each song came to a close.

@salamirosejoelouis’ enchanting vocals, layered against the backdrop of both playful and somber synths, set the tone for the night that soon followed—one of impeccable sound and palpable energy. Though it was my first time witnessing her perform live, the artist strikes as one who lays everything bare each time she sets foot on stage.
