Heading to God’s Country (Texas A&M University) on August 24th and I couldn’t be more fired up. I’ll be speaking to the TAMU-SPE student chapter before their career fair, and the timing could not be better. We’re going to cover the stuff that actually matters when you walk into that room: - Your elevator pitch. - How to work a career fair without feeling like you’re just collecting pens. - What interviewers are actually looking for. - And how to start building your network before you even need it. These skills aren’t taught in school. But it determines 85% of whether you land the job, thrive once you get there, and build a career worth having.

During my conversation with Dr. Bob Barree Petroleum Engineer it was an extremely loud area so apologies for the audio. It's me. You already know I make a lot of mistakes. Fortunately I was able to salvage and repair the abysmal audio by using lots of AI tools. Far from perfect as usual. Took me a while and plenty of room to improve. Without Bob would AI even exist? Less energy available for us? Possibly the reason I met him? Among all valued moments, opportunities, and questions in this industry can be completely unplanned and often accompanied by my mistakes to learn even more. While attending Society of Petroleum Engineers International event, Dr. Robert D. Barree gives insight about his career, the evolution of our industry, and the future of oil & gas. He has an impressive and impactful reputation, accomplishments, and influence across the #energy sector. I say as others do that he invented #frac and was willing to stop and share knowledge, saying a lot about both the man and the culture that built our #oilgas industry. Among hydraulic fracturing, completions, stimulation, and reservoir engineering professionals, Dr. Barree is widely recognized as a pioneer who shaped modern unconventional reservoir development. As founder of Barree & Associates and the primary author behind the GOHFER hydraulic fracture simulator, his technical work has influenced fracture modeling, diagnostics, completion optimization, and stimulation strategy across major shale plays and unconventional developments for decades. The impact of that work reaches far beyond software or engineering papers. It helped shape how operators understand fractures, production behavior, reservoir stimulation, and completion effectiveness in the modern shale era. Technical knowledge from decades spent solving real field problems, watching the industry evolve, challenging assumptions, while moving oil & gas technology forward through multiple generations of change. Technology changes, basins mature, strategies evolve, markets fluctuate... conversations like this are important to me because I hope to preserve experiences and insights that can't be downloaded from a spreadsheet or copied from

I had the privilege of serving on the steering committee and participating as a panelist at the TAMU-SPE Technical Exhibition Networking Event this past weekend. The event brought together more than 180 attendees, including over 60 industry professionals representing 50+ companies, along with a strong presence of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty. The day began with a keynote address from Tom Mireles, EVP and CFO of Murphy Oil Corporation. Tom shared his inspiring journey as a first-generation college student from Fairfield, Texas, to Texas A&M University where he served as Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) student chapter president while earning both BS and MS degrees in Petroleum Engineering, and ultimately building an international career with Murphy. I joined the panel “Leadership & Legacy: SPE Perspectives on the Future of Petroleum” alongside Karen Olson, M.S., Robert Martinez, P.E., Janeen Judah, and Carlos Alberto Torres Nava, moderated by Zachary Evans. Our discussion focused on the impact of SPE on our careers and perspectives on how SPE and the industry may evolve by 2037. Additional keynote presentations from Christian Gradl of Fervo Energy and Jan Sherman of Carbonvert provided valuable insights into emerging areas of the energy landscape. The event also featured panels covering a wide range of technical and strategic topics, including: • EOR & well simulation in unconventional reservoirs • Subsurface innovation for the energy transition (geothermal, hydrogen, and critical minerals) • Emerging innovations and entrepreneurship in energy • Digitalization & AI in petroleum engineering The day concluded with a student poster session, judged by industry volunteers, with awards supported by event sponsors. Congratulations to the outstanding student organizing committee, led by Leila Karabayanova, for delivering a highly engaging and well-executed event. #WeAreSPE

With inspirational, impactful, and accomplished #energy leadership like Jennifer Miskimins at Society of Petroleum Engineers International #Frac conference 2026 Jennifer L. Miskimins is a professor and the department head of the petroleum engineering department at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines), where she holds the F.H. Mick Merelli/Coterra Energy Distinguished Department Head Chair. She has over 30 years of experience in the petroleum industry, starting with Marathon Oil Company as a production engineer. Miskimins began teaching at Mines in 2002 and has held various appointments since then. From 2013–2015, she held a part-time appointment at Mines while working at Barree & Associates. In 2016, she returned full-time to the university. Miskimins served as the first Completions Technical Director on the SPE International Board of Directors. She was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer in 2010–2011 and 2013–2014. She was awarded the 2014 SPE Completions Optimization and Technology Award, and in 2022, she received the SPE Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty. Miskimins has served on a variety of conference organizing committees, including chairing the 2023 and 2024 SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Conference and Exhibition, and as a technical editor for SPE journals, including serving as the executive editor of Production & Operations for 3 years. Earlier this month, two traditionally rival universities came together to launch an inaugural collaborative event for Petroleum Engineering graduate students to showcase their research. ALLIES (Aggies–Longhorns Leading Innovation in Energy Symposium) aptly reflects both the participating institutions and the collaborative spirit behind the event. ALLIES was led by graduate student leaders from the Petroleum Graduate Student Association at The University of Texas at Austin and the Texas A&M University SPE Student Chapter, including co-chairs Nadia Mouedden and Taha Yehia. The program featured graduate research presentations delivered through 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) talks and interactive poster sessions. I was pleased to serve on the steering committee for this event and, in my role as 2027 SPE President, to participate in an SPE Presidential Panel alongside Helge Haldorsen (2015), Nathan Meehan (2016), and Terry Palisch (2024), moderated by Caroline Huet. The day opened with a fireside chat featuring Vicki Hollub, President & CEO of Oxy, and Richard Jackson, COO of Oxy. This was followed by three technical sessions, each launched with Lightning Talks by Sama Morsy, Amir Hermes, and Prithvi Chauhan, setting the stage for student 3MT presentations across three core themes: • Conventional and unconventional oil and gas • Emerging and low-carbon energy • Data science and AI applications Industry judges evaluated both the 3MT presentations and poster sessions, with cash prizes awarded to top performers. ALLIES also included a career fair and a recruiters’ panel featuring Faisal Al-Qadh, Mathias Lia Carlsen, Nancy Cohen, and Sean Golden, moderated by Chris Lolley. The event concluded with closing remarks from Tom Blasingame. Sincere thanks to the event sponsors for their support, including: Oxy, Whitson, Welltec, Gverse Geographix, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, bp, SPE-GCS, Basin IQ, Saga Wisdom, ComboCurve, EOG, Rosenxt, ResFrac, SLB, Flowco, Geothermal Rising, CMG, ai Driller, Novi, Hephae, Imperative Chemical Partners, Calpine, and SPWLA. A strong example of how collaboration across institutions can elevate student development and innovation in energy. #WeAreSPE
