How can a bird collected decades ago answer research questions today? 🐦 🪶

@tamueccb holds more than 2.3 million specimens that help scientists understand wildlife across generations. Former students Judy ’78 and Tim ’74 ’77 Turner are helping that work grow by supporting bird collection trips, specimen preparation and hands-on research for future Aggie scientists.

Aggie Audubon had an absolute blast getting a behind-the-scenes look at TAMU’s Biodiversity Research & Teaching Collections this past Friday! With over 35,000 bird specimens from 59 different countries, we could have spent all day exploring! 🪶🦉

Special thank you to Dr. Voelker and Heather Prestridge for arranging such a fun afternoon for us!

I had the honor of surprising four of our incredible faculty members in their classrooms over the past week, which is about as great as a workday could possibly get!

The Association of Former Students College-Level Teaching Awards are among the most prestigious faculty honors at Texas A&M. Students and peers do the nominating, and the awards recognize command of the discipline, inventive teaching and real care for the students in the room. Ours this year are tamueccb's Dr. Ben Wu, @tamuagec's Dr. Oral Capps Jr., @tamurwfm's Dr. Melissa Shehane and @tamu_hmgt's Dr. Heather Eden.

Great teaching changes the trajectory of a student's life. These four do it every semester. Congratulations again to each of you! This year's Summer Poster Session was the largest yet with over 220 presenters and 29 featured programs!✏️📚

"I've learned more with two years of research than I've learned in any class," Emma Conrey said. "I think a lot of that is through the freedom to make a mistake and actually learn how to overcome it without it being for a grade."

From the Purple Martin Watch Party the other night. Hundreds of people getting together to watch tens of thousands of birds settle in for the night. It’s a cool world we live in.
