A team of Swansea University students who have designed a filtration system to make river water safe to drink reached the European semi-final of a worldwide design competition.🌍

The competition is called “Invent for the Planet”. Run by Texas A&M University, it was open to 20 participating universities in 15 countries around the world. Swansea was the only UK university invited to participate.

Students work in local teams and select a global challenge. This year they included improving access to clean water in Papua New Guinea, creating innovative housing for growing populations, reducing bycatch to safeguard marine life and creating sustainable energy solutions for countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

The winning team - called Pure Flow – was made up of six students: Francesca Jarvis, studying maths and computer science; Sean Calucag, studying chemical engineering; and Hywel Crawley, Harry Griffiths, Sanskar Aryal and Oskar Augustin, all studying mechanical engineering.

After nearly two semesters of dedication from the VFD team, our drone is complete and heading to competition in Maryland this week.

The Texas A&M Vertical Flight Design Team will be competing against 10 other collegiate teams from across the nation. The drone will be judged on performance, endurance, capacity, and autonomous capabilities. We look forward to making a name for Texas A&M in the field of vertical flight!

I’m officially official!!

The countless late nights, lab reports, and study hours all have paid off for this little ring. I am forever grateful for the support system I’ve been blessed with. I couldn’t have done it without my family, the amazing friends I’ve made in my time here, and most importantly God!

The eclipse wasn't the only celestial event to hit Texas A&M...

The National Academy of Engineering landed in Aggieland to hold their regional meeting and a "Space and Time" symposium featuring Aggie faculty and students.

Of course there are pictures; no special glasses needed: tx.ag/FacultyAffairsPhotos
