What happens when prostate cancer stops responding to treatment? 🔬🦠

Dr. James Sacchettini, an AgriLife Research scientist, Rodger J. Wolfe-Welch Foundation Chair in Science and professor in @bcbp_tamu, is working with Dr. Chendil Damodaran in @tamupharmacy on an @nihgov collaboration to find new ways to target advanced prostate cancer. The project taps hundreds of thousands of natural compounds from plants, marine life and microbes.

Learn more: tx.ag/ProstateCancer A laboratory automation machine is shown using multiple pipettes to dispense liquid into a 96-well plate, commonly used in scientific and medical experiments. The pipettes are aligned above the plate, with purple liquid visible in the tips.

Alhamdulillah 🤲✨ Years of struggle, countless late nights, so many moments of self-doubt… and today I can finally say I got into Doctor of Pharmacy school 🩺👩‍⚕️🎓

This isn’t just an admission letter, it’s the result of every single prayer my family made for me. I’ve faced failures that came with humiliation, moments where people doubted me and I almost doubted myself too. To everyone who kept saying “you’ll make it happen,” to every night it felt impossible. it all feels worth it in this moment.

P1 year is about to begin, and I’ll be sharing every part of this journey the struggles, the wins, all of it.

Class of 2030, here I come 🚀

7-OH may sound like just another ingredient in an “all-natural” kratom product. But some products sold at vape shops and gas stations contain highly concentrated or synthetic 7-OH derivatives that can act powerfully on the brain’s opioid receptors.

7-OH has been shown to bind to these receptors with much greater potency than morphine, raising concerns about rapid tolerance, physical dependence and potentially fatal respiratory depression.

So what does it mean for people who use these products and for the communities trying to regulate them?

@tamupharmacy's Joy Alonzo, PharmD, explains:

• Why concentrated and synthetic 7-OH products can affect the brain differently from natural kratom leaf.
• What the DEA’s proposed Schedule I action could mean for high-potency 7-OH products.
• Why identifying and enforcing against these products can be challenging.
• What people can do to reduce the risk, including keeping naloxone (NARCAN®) readily available.
