Having great fun with my artist friend Sumi sharing and swapping concertina sketchbooks. It's exciting each week to see what the other person has added to the trail you left them with and we are finding that our differing strengths complement each other really well. Thanks to @taraleaver for the blog article she wrote that set us off on this journey.

Here's a quick flip through of where we have got so far in the collaborative sketchbook project that I am doing with @taraleaver.
For those of you who don't know, Tara and I are putting together our different landscapes ( Cornwall seashore, Hampstead heath ) in one sketchbook! You can look up the tag #Landseaskysketchbook to catch up on the story so far. 🌊🌳
Do you have a favourite page? I think mine is the one with the wildflowers that Tara drew. It does feel like the landscapes are flowing into each other more than before. This book will be in the post soon Tara! ✉️📮

Is it possible that we’re already 6 months+ into this crazy year? I like to stop and reflect mid year, step back, assess, reframe, adjust and move forward. I take mental inventory and make notes in my journal. I’m usually not one for many words but when they’re important I’m not at a loss for them.
Today a friend asked how my art was going. When I thought realistically about it, the inner critic was nowhere to be found. (Been working on that one too!) As a newbie and emerging artist, I’m thrilled to say I have pieces hanging right now in multiple places (see my story and this post). I can hardly believe it and you can bet I’ll archive my story when I look back in wonder. As many of you have personally experienced, this is not an easy journey, and there’s a load of doubt built into the process. But here I am, doing something I never thought I’d be doing, and mentally healthier for having pursued this dream. I have learned to play again. I’ve learned a lot of technical “stuff”, built a website, and stretched so much! I have met some wonderful people here who are kind and giving and helpful. I’m very grateful to everyone who has and is supporting me. This community on IG is amazing. So many people stop to take time to look at my posts and comment and provide feedback or encouragement. Let me tell you that makes a big difference, especially on those low days. Thank you so very much!!! You’ll see a few thank you tags, not necessarily associated with any of the pix specifically, but as my way of saying thanks ❤️

Here's a page of the #Landseaskysketchbook that I'm working on with @taraleaver.

She sent me the book with that exquisite sea weed drawing and I had to rack my brains about what I wanted to put next to it. A good old English Oak felt right in the end. I had a lovely time making impressions of oak tree bark - lots of 💪
Swipe to see the impressions.

I am using this collaboration to get my brain thinking about different ways to express a place. It's turning out to be a wonderful exercise.

Sketchbooks & Sunshine.
One of the nicest things we did during the half term last week was to spend a morning on the heath in our little tent along with things we wanted to spend time on. I took my sketchbook and paints along.

Not any sketchbook, but the #Landseaskysketchbook that I am collaborating on with @taraleaver. Tara records snapshots of her beautiful coastal Cornwall landscape in the sketchbook and I bring my woodland heath landscape. We are swapping books this week and I can't wait to see what Tara has for me to work on :-) I'll be sharing more from the sketchbook this week so you can see how I have responded to what Tara put in the book before our last swap. It's super stressful to go over someone's work or add something to it..but it gets easier with practice 😃
