What are the odds i accidentally run into my dad at Burning Man?

Can a mathematician tell me?

I was about 5 blocks away from camp, I decided to cut through a random camp.

I look over and see a man washing his feet wearing a wide brimmed black hat.

He oddly looks like my dad.

I was feeling delusional and hopeful that it was him so I lean in to the strangers personal space…

You can only imagine the moment of shock when he looks up and we lock eyes. 🤯

I had no idea he was even on playa.

It’s the synchronicities and magic is why I love Burning Man.

the body does not exist in isolation.

we are constantly in relationship with each other, with our environments, with the systems we move through. what happens around us enters the body. what we put into the world enters someone else’s.

this is why attention matters. presence is not just something we practice for ourselves. it is a way of recognizing that our choices have consequence, that our wellbeing is connected, and that none of us moves through this life entirely alone.

to become more embodied is to become more aware of that relationship. to notice how we affect the spaces we enter, the people we encounter, and the world we are helping create.

we are not separate bodies. we are bodies in relationship.

As a kid, I got trapped under a wave, tossed and turned into the sand, over and over again. As more waves crashed down, I couldn’t even perceive which way was up or down. It felt like I was underwater for minutes, like I may never find my way to the surface again, like I may just be drowning.

That’s what this lunar eclipse feels like. An intense, liminal space- not here nor there. We know we’re going to have to come up for air soon, but right now, we can’t see which way is up.

So we surrender. We release. We trust that the water will move us where we need to go. And then, we breathe 🌊🌝♓️

Let’s talk about remote work: the pros, the cons & the sh*t nobody talks about. 😂

We were sold this idea that working from anywhere = freedom.

And YES.

How lucky are we that we get to travel, be around our kids, move around, have flexibility.

I get it.

But but but…

What a LUXURY it was to go to an office and at 5pm just…

CLOCK OUT. Done.

Because being present is work too.

And somehow we’ve lost interest in doing that kind of work.

We want fast sex, instant connection, intimacy on demand.

But guess what?

That’s not really how a woman’s brain works.

Nobody wants to be telling their partner something while they’re like:

“Yeah babe, I’m listening…”

while staring at their phone.

MOJO 💦🤲🏽= GONE 💩🤣

Because now there’s ALWAYS something.

Something to answer.
Something to fix.
Something to make better.

Always available.

Always trying to be THE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH because technically… you can answer.

But just because you CAN doesn’t mean you HAVE TO.

And that’s the part I think we f*cked up.

When you can work from anywhere…

everywhere becomes work.

The couch.
Dinner.
Bed.
Vacation.

And slowly, without even noticing, we lose intimacy.

And then the most interesting part:

Us preaching to our kids about electronics.

“Enough screens.”
“Put the phone down.”
“Be present.”

Meanwhile us:

📱👀

LOL. I do it too.

I’m in hospitality. There is ALWAYS something to answer.

But maybe the real flex is not being available 24/7.

Teach people your boundaries.

Clock the F*ck out.

Your emails will survive.
