another year closer to eternity and i’m relieved to be 28. 27 was so cursed but i feel proud of her who is dead and shed and gone already. goodbye. you tried so hard to be what was needed, meanwhile needing so much. and then after everything had gone, contorting yourself to make something beautiful out of what was mostly just empty space. like ikebana. which is a good skill to have i guess, however tedious and miraculous, like the sun making the flowers grow with its far-away fire, bright white and blinding with its distance and violence. all year i raged and felt unknowable like the surface of that star—you would not believe up close what it made possible on earth.

what we need to survive is not the same as what we need to live, the former being the body and the latter being the body in motion: dancing in the kitchen and running through the airport and walking from the dining room to the dish pit and back. it does matter how you move and i don’t like living in this music box, feeling trapped inside its dark until you wind it and i spin.

where will i go with this heart? it feels big and slippery in my hands like a strange gilled creature i need to return to the ocean. i have no expectations anymore so there is no longer any rush or deadline, no textbook or uniform or anything i might use to test or punish myself. to keep myself in line there would have to be a line. and now there is only the spiral
