15 years later, I finally went back…
Bali pt. 1/2

A few months overdue, but I’m finally feeling settled enough to share my trip back to 🇮🇩 Bali — after a 15-year hiatus 🤯

In the summer of 2007, at the ripe age of 15, I moved here with my parents for over two years. I learned to surf, speak Bahasa Indonesian, attended Bali International School… and started clubbing way too young🕺😂

This was before Facebook was big and long before Bali became the digital nomad hub it is today. Back then, Umalas and Canggu were mostly undeveloped. The expat community was tight-knit — friendships forged on the island became chosen family.

When my uncle passed away while I was in Thailand, I felt a deep pull to be around loved ones. I needed to reconnect — with old friends, the island, and my younger self. So I changed my plans and flew in.

Landing back in Bali, I felt some of that same magic 🌀 I remembered leaving at 17. Seeing my old friends as an adult brought back the silliness, the laughter, and the real love we share.

Here are some moments with people I’ve missed deeply. Next time, I won’t wait another 15 years to come back 😉

Sampai jumpa lagi ✌🏼

It’s my bday week and I’m feeling very japandi brutalist.
Edgy but still in order, zen with a lot of a lot, alone but kinda belonging. Resilient with yet to be regulated emotions. Most importantly - Whole.
