Introducing our newest member @jenniferatchesondop

Hi, I’m Jenny. I’m currently based in Belfast working as a DOP and Operator after stepping up 6 years ago.

While studying Foundation Art and a BA in Photography, I discovered my love of shooting moving image. After a few years self shooting short form, I made the transition to long form and started as a trainee in 2013. I spent most of the following years working mainly as an A Camera Loader, while shooting short form at the weekends and between contracts.

When I first joined the industry here, all the female Camera crew before had left to work in various different roles or places. I’m glad to say this has changed for the better with roughly 1 in 4 females within Camera roles, and better representation within crew in general.

So far I have shot two Features, one children’s TV Series, Additional Photography on various Operating jobs, and more shorts that I can count.

Working within a crew as part of a hive mind to bring a story to life is such a powerful process. I love the psychology and challenges around the creative process in bringing a Directors vision to screen the best I can. Working so closely with actors is truly magical, when you can feed off their performance and sync with their movements.

I am truly grateful in becoming a member of @illuminatrix_rising_dops especially considering my first opportunities to step up to Operate came from @illuminatrix_dops @donnagagewade on a TV Series and @kate.mc.cullough on a Short Film. Over the years, I have attended as many @bscine workshops and talks by founding members @cgdop and @noodlle as possible and am honoured to be part of a collective of so much talent.

In future would love to work on more ‘70s/‘80s/‘90s era narrative, psychological thrillers, and dystopian sci-fiction.
