NEW CLIENT BOAT RECORD ON SOFT PLASTIC!

A 150cm Hawkesbury mulloway!

While my client was wrestling this beast at the front of the boat, I put in a cast and hooked up too — suddenly we were both wrestling giants!

I ended up losing mine, but man, I was happy to slide the net under his. What a moment!

A few quick photos, plenty of time recovering in the water, and this giant swam away healthy and strong. 💪

After about a year of not having a boat, a little bit of rain wasn’t going to stop us taking it out the day we got it fixed! In what felt like some sort of signal, the first hop of the first cast back i hooked this solid little inshore snap which is my first decent one in a while hence the carry on hahaha.

@baitjunkieofficial 4” herring in Ghost Oil got the bite 👌🏼

THE FINAL DAY HIGHLIGHTS... One last crack at the leaderboard, a few nervous anglers and plenty of “we just need one more good fish”.

And just like that, the 2026 Mallacoota Flatty Classic is done.

Three days of fishing, laughs, some cracking catches and enough stories to keep getting less believable until next year.

To every angler, sponsor, helper and the crew at Scallywags, thank you. There’s a huge amount that goes into this weekend, but it’s the people who turn up and get around it that make it what it is.

A massive thank you to Daiwa and all our partners for backing us and helping put together a weekend worth travelling for.

Congratulations to our winners. The rest of us will be referring to it as “more of a social weekend” from here on.

Enjoy the final day highlights. We’re going to need a bit of sleep.

Wild Papuan bass on the move – high activity, high intensity, non-stop action. Plenty of broken lines, broken hearts and twisted metal along the way.
⁣⁣
Fresh notes and observations for the book, too – spawning behaviours and scenes that would blow your mind.⁣
⁣⁣
⁣A big thanks to Shimano for the support. Some beautiful bass graced our baby baths before a quick release back to the water.⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating fires across Indonesia. Sadly, the crisis meant our loyal pioneer Bob Daly couldn't make it in this time. You were missed, mate!⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Saltwater, brackish, freshwater – we caught 'em all.⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Huge thanks to our faithful, hardy crews, to Verdi, to the beautiful community of Papua, and to our families.⁣
⁣⁣
⁣See you in NOV. 🔥⁣

Beach caught Spanish,
Sick little Spaniard off the sand went airborne on the @malosilures chieftain,
Made it even sweeter after getting snipped by a monster on the first take.

Barra Trip done and dusted 👌 we had wind, rain, cold weather, cold water and the odd bit of sun but we managed to put 25 Barra in the boat and also a big old bass. The height on the big one was something pictures will never do justice. All fish taken on @darkside_flies and plastics with the new BKK Hyperlatch Apex Jigheads. We didn’t bend one Jighead this trip ( last year we destroyed over 10 Jigheads ) I actually used the same Jighead for most of my fish which was unreal to test them out. Place never disappoints 👌

Awesome crew to go with it as usual @andy30729 @dalesouthwell @xr6blake and Shane

Solid little wander along the beach with @josh_gray36 yesterday in search for some more King George Whiting on the soft plastics. Had the general Silver Trevally bycatch coming in thick and fast but managed to sneak the softies past the target species and get the job done before the rain set in.

The hunt for the giant is on! Haven’t had this much fun fishing in who knows how long, definitely getting the spark back and enjoying the sand between the toes!
