In honor of recruitment and spirit week I want to share my story of not only going through recruitment as a sophmore but also being the first one in my program to go through here is my story…

during recruitment I was looking for a place that would make a big campus like the University of Cincinnati feel smaller — somewhere I could truly feel seen, supported, and at home. Going into recruitment, I was excited and nervous, hoping I would find a group of women who could become my people.

Then came the first day of recruitment: Open House.

From the moment I walked into Pi Beta Phi, something felt different. The conversations felt natural, the women made me feel so welcomed, and for the first time, I could truly picture myself somewhere. I remember looking around and thinking, I could see myself here.

One of the most meaningful moments that day was talking to Tatum (@tatumwalshe The way she talked about Pi Phi and her sisters made me understand what genuine sisterhood could look like. I could hear how much she truly loved Pi Phi, and I remember walking away thinking, This is why I love Pi Phi so much. That conversation made me realize I wasn’t just looking for a sorority — I was looking for a home.

And throughout the rest of recruitment, I just kept falling more and more in love with Pi Phi. Every conversation and every woman I met gave me another reason to believe that this was where I belonged. I loved how everyone genuinely cared about one another, supported each other, and encouraged each other to be the best versions of themselves. I felt more comfortable every day, and I never felt like I had to change who I was to fit in.

Then came Bid Day, and I officially became a Pi Phi. 🩷 I was so excited to finally call these women my sisters, but one of the most special parts of that day was meeting Ava @avanrockey — my now Big.

From the moment we started talking, we just clicked. Our conversation felt so easy and natural, and I remember thinking that I could see myself becoming really close with her. I had no idea that the girl I met on Bid Day would become such an important person in my life.

Now, Ava is not only my Big, but someone I look up to, trust, and k
